Hey everyone,

I havent seen a pick thread here as of yet, i mean what picks do you guys use?

I use dunlop tortex sharp 1.5mm but though of changing it Dunlop jazz III but did not know how tiny those picks are.(ordered them online gawd pictures can be deceiving rolleyes.gif )
Still i think ill give em shot, i think smaller the pick the more you hold it better grip.

So what do you guys use? smile.gif

Dunlop .88mm
switched to from Fender Med's and loving it more. Fender's tend to get rough. Like the idea of ebony picks though.

Holy crap, Marcus! Not only made of stone but lasted 20 years O.o

Do you use it in all the BG videos and such? I wanna see that thing, that seems sweet, you'd think it would sound weird...

Anyway I use Dunlop Tortex 1.18 I like the sharp ones too but my local music store always seems to run out of them when I go to get some and I always mess up when filing a pick or I'm too lazy.

Posted by: Trond Vold Apr 11 2008, 04:44 AM

I usually use Jazz II's. Just about right for me smile.gif

Yup, this pick is 20 years old, back then when I discovered those picks I bought 3 of them, but I lost one on tour sometime in the 90's, so I only have 2 left. The great thing about those picks is the fact that they give you absolute control about the tone and they don't get worn out at all, those 2 ones that I have been using for so many years still look like on the first day! The problem is that when I wanted to get some new ones ( I am always a bit scared to lose them on tour) last year I couldn't get them anywhere, there were stone picks, but not the shape that I wanted. But then I got in contact to a guy that actually produces custom stone picks, so I contacted him and he made 3 new ones for me, so now I got some backups laugh.gif I even got another one in a slightly different shape that I use from time to time, it is nice to have options wink.gif

I see they also sell some stone picks on ebay, Agate and a few others..
Maybe I'll try one smile.gif

Who is it that makes customs picks then? Can you get different shapes, sizes etc..?

Posted by: Hisham Apr 11 2008, 09:54 AM

Posted by: bsamn Apr 11 2008, 10:17 AM

Well now i after using jazz III, i dont think they are that bad.

But would love the same pick in tortex, i might just order some online.

Posted by: Smells Apr 11 2008, 10:27 AM

Pretty much always used the Jazz III picks, recently tried out the Ultex version and liking them alot also

Posted by: Danilo Capezzuto Apr 11 2008, 10:45 AM

I use both jazz III, the red ones and the black ones. The reds are a little bit more soft and clean than the blacks, give them a try, sure you'll never come back!

If you have a spare $2500 you could try one of these. ohmy.gif

Personally I just grab a handful from the 10 for a dollar box at the music store.
Preferably around 0.88 - 1.2mm thick with a sharpish point. biggrin.gif

3.0mm Stubby for me

Posted by: erik Apr 13 2008, 05:22 PM

I also thought the jazz III where too small in the beginning. Half an hour later it's the best pick I've ever played. Everybody should give the Jazz III a try tongue.gif

I have two picks that are really my staples.

Mostly i use Jim Dunlop Big stubbies 2.0

And when i am going to be doing alot of heavy rhythm work i switch to a Herco Heavy thumbpick. I find when doing alot of heavy rhythm i cant keep a pick from spinning around in my fingers so i solved it by switching to the thumbpick.

The guy that made those picks for me has a shop on ebay, but I don't have the link stored here on my laptop. I will look for it on my other computer at home and post it here then. And yes, he offers picks in various shapes.

I got a hold on a couple "Sharkfin" Landström design at the local music store, very good pick for a beginner like me.. rolleyes.gif

I got the feel of hitting the strings much better and the tip is quiet small, which makes finding the strings alot easier.

Thumbs up for that one, at least I recommend it for the beginners worked superb for me.
