Currently my only electric guitar is a Schecter Spitfire 6 which i got extremely cheap because its used, old, and basically all around crappy.

I recently bought a Line 6 SpiderIII amp and now I'm looking for a decent guitar thats about $450 or less. I've been to some stores nearby but they had a very small selection and either had a couple $1000 Gibsons or basic beginner packages for $200. Now I either have to look online for a good deal or find the closest GuitarCenter and find something that suits me. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

ebay would allow you to find a good barely used\new guitar for a good price...make sure the seller has good Feedback and score and it's hard to go wrong.

i wouldnt rely on ebay too much. never trusted it and my friends have had big problems with it.

i'd say

research it heavily first. decide what type of tone you want. what you normally play (style of music) etc and take it all into consideration.

most people here would say ibanez, but dont just decide cuz they recommend. make sure you try them out for yourself and compare other makes =]

If you want a metal/shred guitar I'ld suggest an RG ibanez

If you are looking for a Les Paul type guitar, I recently got a Dean Evo Special Select as I had Dean Evos suggested to me on these forums... it's really an incredible guitar for the money.

Edit: Just to add something, try signing up for the newsletters from Music123.com and Musiciansfriend.com... they get exclusive guitars that's basically just a different color pickguard or body and after a while they will put them on closeout prices. I got my RG350 for $270 brand new ohmy.gif and it's even somewhat unique as it's black with a black pickguard. I found out about the deal because Music123 sent me a newsletter.

I go ebay for a lot of things but I'm not sure I'd do it for a guitar. Maybe if the price is cheap enough.

I'm a fan of pawn shops but you gotta know what you're looking for and what stuff is worth when you go in there. Every once in a while you'll find a really good deal and you have to be patient enough to find it.

I go ebay for like some nice football/baseball cards, because nothing can be wrong with them. But i'd never use ebay for a guitar. They could easily hide somthing in the pic that has something wrong with it. They'd also put almost all the money into shipping because you dont get your shipping money back!Just my opinion, dont have to listen to me if you dont want. And for the guitar.....I'd go for an Ibanez RG350DX. If you wanna see it in detail, go to Samash.com . That's my 2 cents.

Thanks for the replies everyone, I looked around eBay a little but im kinda skeptical about purchasing a new guitar there. I will still look around but I think stratman got me with the Ibanez RG350DX. Either that or the RG350MDX or RG370DX. Wish me luck!

Craigslist.

You can find local sellers and that way you can meet them in person to see if it's what you want.

www.craigslist.com

IMO it's much better than ebay.

Like i said....I Have used ebay and it worked well...you really do have to make sure the seller is legit by communication and making sure you know the ins and outs of the purchase....but if you find a quality guitar new for about 200 less than what it would be at MF(Musicians Friend),chances are it is a great deal. I got my new fender showmaster ($800 value w\ dimebucker\SD Full Shred Humb) for only 430 and it works great!
