Mr. V, how much (an estimation) would those two cost you upon completion? Like an estimation of the total cost covering almost everything? Because I've always wanted to make at least one guitar myself, whenever I have the time and money tongue.gif Also, did you make the necks and fretboards yourself or bought them?

They look killer by the way cool.gif

That is really cool. That 8 string looks like it is going to be a beast! Hope to hear some samples when they are finished.

Of course! I have been threatening to come to one of your chats for way too long. When I get it done I will plan a day off just to come! smile.gif
And thank you. I will post more pics as it progresses.

There will still be plenty of aluminum. laugh.gif
The one in chat is an ESP LTD F207. I didn't make it but I did modify it. I changed the tuners, the pickups, added coil tap switches. And it had a crappy floyd rose bridge on it, which I hated. So I filled the routes and put a hardtail on it and refinished it.

Thanks! I would say the 8 string the total cost in parts and materials is about $400. But most of that is in the pickups and tuners the pickups were $100 each, and the tuners another $80. What's more expensive is tools. There is lots of ways to work around not having something but there are some tools that I have gotten that I wonder how I ever did without them. laugh.gif

I made the neck and fretboard. I have seen neck through blanks for sale. But there was no way I was gonna find a fretboard with the specs I needed for this one. The one that is on there now though is a third attempt, the first one I miscut one of the fret slots. mad.gif Then the second one slipped out of my hand and the belt sander launched it across the shop like an arrow!!!! Funny now. Not so much then. dry.gif

Ha that's exactly what I would want it to look like. My kids tell me it looks like the United States though. dry.gif
I have built a couple motorcycles and parts, and I am pretty good at making trouble. I'm pretty cheap so I try to make whatever can. smile.gif

These guitars looks amazing, I'll be following this thread.
Second guitar seems to have frets all made at different angle.

I was always curious about how does one know how to space out the frets during the build, especially these which feature a different angle between each other - and have the guitar keep tuning well all over the neck once it is finished?

They are both FANNED FRET models Bogdan smile.gif They are "Multi-Scale" instruments which means the high strings are at a different scale length than the lower strings.

This is a brilliant (IMHO) method of building for ERG instruments. It permits low strings without requiring crazy tight string tension on the high strings.

I've played lots of 8 string guitars and most of them EVEN MY IBANEZ RG8!! Have WAAAAAAYYYY too much tension on the high strings which makes them non-expressive IMHO. They are great for Djent, single note stuff. But too hard to bend/vibrato. The ONLY guitar without fanned frets that plays even close to a standard guitar is the STRICTLY 7 COBRA 8 STRING that I have been messing with.

I hope I can borrow this latest creation from VONHOTCH once it's ready for action!!!

Todd

I love it too, Love the randomness of the markings. You can work it exactly as you would any other maple.
I have to see my 'client' this weekend and I'll ask if he minds pics. I did a build for him about 4 years ago and he was very reticent to let me use pics for advertising/brochure etc. It's his choice I suppose.

I'll see what I can dig out. I had a load on my old PC which got lost when the Hard Drive threw it's toys out of the pram!
I'm sure I still have some somewhere though!!
