Yeah i just noticed yesterday while i was playing my guitar and then again later on in the day while i was driving i was turning my steering wheel and i just felt an extreme pain in my left wrist i almost couldnt complete the turn it hurt so much.

Im not sure what the cause of this pain was i dont think it could've been my guitar but the pain definately hinders my playing, I acctually believe that the pain may have been cause by over doing myself with my my golf swings and I definately cant swing a club right now sad.gif

So if anyone has any advise or experience with this problem id appreciate some of your knowledge so my wrist can get better and hopefully never happen again. Even though id never stop playing golf or guitar for a little bit of pain id keep playing utill my hands fell right off, then i might try using my feet or something biggrin.gif

I strongly advise to not play while the pain is there. Give it a rest for a few days.

I was Afriad someone would say that sad.gif
I guess il just spend some time and give my guitar a good cleaning instead

Does anybody know if using light wieghts and doing some wrist exersizes will increase strength or if i should just avoid stressing my wrist altogether. Just asking so i dont have to deal with pain this again, seeing as it nearly put me and my car in the ditch yesterday.

It also may show a flaw in technique that you need to iron out. Maybe your golf stroke is slightly wrong and puts a bit too much twist on the wrist or you're too tense whilst playing guitar and straining yourself. Remember you need to stay calm and loose. Many sports injuries occur because of wrong technique.

No weights necessary really. There are wrist supports you can get to prevent injury and the pain. Johnny Greenwood of Radiohead has one and he has lots of pain in his wrist but the support allows him to play normally with no pain and it also makes sure it doesn;t get any worse smile.gif

That could be although i've had the same golf swing for quite sometime.

i had the same problem like you did, but back then i trained Muay thai so i think it was also a major factor why my wrist got hurt. I got loads of pain even if i lifted a fork .....Although that was only temporary.

I highly recommend you to do warming up, as well as massage your wrists before you play, also, you should stop playing guitar for a few days. Try to learn theory mabye smile.gif

Just means to get rid of the creases like you do when your ironing. There may not be that much wrong but a small thing over a long time can be a problem that needs getting rid of.

Just a sad English quote lol biggrin.gif

Just pay attention and maybe try and go and play golf when your hand is better but leave off guitar for a day or two and see if the pain returns. If it doesn;t then play guitar for 2 days and leave golf for a few days and if pain returns then you know it is guitar causing it.

I hope you find out problem. It can be very frustrating not knowing the cause of problems. sad.gif

And yes. Make sure you walm up when playing guitar or playing golf. It is crucial. I had many pains long ago when playing guitar but this caused me to relax a bit more when playing and also to walm up properly smile.gif

do nothing now. wait.

btw as organised confusion said, try something to support your wrists. you get it at pharmacies.

if it doesnt go away in a few days i would suggest going to a physical therapist.. a good one.

Yes really. If you find a crappy one, don't give up, you need a good one. I have been to so many crappy physical therapists for a problem I'm having with a nerve in my arm, and it took a few months before I could find a good one. The difference is huge, and it's really worth it.

Yes. This is a big thing. My friend took ages finding a good therapist but when he found one it cleared up in no time. Just make sure it doesn't continue. It may be a one off thing that you accidentally injured it somehow.

definitely. the first therapist i went to sucked really hard. he said "your arms are fine".
luckily my dad knows a physical therapist wich is like the therapist for norways cross country ski team or something like that. he's really good and immediately knew what was wrong and started giving me treatment every week.

so yeah, there are some people that definitely should not be physical therapists. be careful lol. good luck.

Me and my mate go to the biggest sporting university in the country at Loughborough University and my mate went to a therapist here and they told him what was up instantly pretty much and he had spent ages before going round other therapists that said there was no problem. If you know a sporting therapist then you're laughing.

I've had some problems with my left wrist. Now I'm doing some exercices before playing like doing circles with my wrist (OMG I don't know how to explain it biggrin.gif).
BTW I often wear a metacarpal-wrist-band, it works good wink.gif

@Jaun: Yeah i've been just kinda rotating my wrist in circles (is that how you wanted to explain it?) wink.gif just to loosen it up but i stop if it hurts.

@Hisham:If it keeps up for a week i will take your advise. For sure

@Everyone:Thanks for all the help i really appreciate it and at this point i think i physical therapist is a little extreme. But thanks everyone once again.

Definitely let it rest. Take a break from guitar for a few days, although it might be hard. Make sure to avoid inspirational guitarists, as they may cause you to play. laugh.gif
