Criticism encouraged smile.gif I want to improve.

Two new metal jams ive been working on (Theyre only about 2 and a half minutesas of yet)...

-Guitars and bass through POD X3 Live, EZDrummer, and working on
keyboard parts with Absynth 5 and my nanokey.

The first one doesnt follow much of a pattern

The second one doesnt yet have complete drums, but I thought Id post it anyway

Thanks in advance!

Sounds excellent man! Riffs are pretty killer! Tone is pretty killer as well.

I think the snare needs to be raised a bit, maybe by only 1 or 1.5 db, But other than that it sounds great.

Brutal! Very tight and nice played! I can tell that You have been putting some effort in the drum programming - which I like a lot. Otherwise, there's nothing really to say. It sounds great in my ears. Maybe could the backing during the guitar solo in the first song be a little lower and the lead a little more in front. I'm not really an expert at this kind of music, but it sounds just right to me in theis genre. Very well done!!

Thanks! And I agree, never quite noticed that but now that it's raised it cuts through rather nicely! smile.gif

Thanks Staffy, im going to try taking one of the guitars out during the guitar solo (there is still 2 guitars being double tracked in the backround as well as the solo in front!) and see how it sounds!

I'm not very good a mixing. I'm working on a song myself. I was listening this and thinking "improve what?" This was awesome! I'm trying to get this sorta tone. Think I'm gonna get a POD. I only heard a few clips in the first song. I agree about hearing the solo. I live for the solos in music! I enjoyed the last one as well! Stellar job!

Wow man this is impressive! Really great songs, I like the riffing a lot! smile.gif Recording and mix is interesting, possibly the mix/production could be more open (brighter) and wider in stereo. Really amazing work and guitars sound very powerful. Keep up the good work.

Thanks Bogdan. Do you suggest I take off the EQ in REAPER to achieve the brighter sound? (I did a master track mid scoop). Would this interfere with other equalizers that most people will be using (eg, iTunes)? And what do you mean when you say wider in stereo? I have all my intruments that are double tracked at 71% left 71% right at the moment. Does in need to be higher or lower in pan?

Thanks in advance man!

Really well done. You are on your way to being a full blown producer! Once trick to try is to maybe double the guitars with Mics as well as direct. That way you can mix them together, or pan them left/right to get a wider / bigger / deeper sound. The pod sounds great but being able to mix in a micd version of the track always helps to thicken things up. It will force you to play exactly what you played the time before but human nature will put some variation in it which can make it sound very spiffy. But if you are lagging or rushing on the second pass, they won't line up and it will sound wonky.

Todd

I already have both guitars double tracked, so are you suggesting I quad track the guitars with 2 takes being POD and the other two through my half stack (SM57)? Im definitely up for anything that will improve my sound!

Thanks Todd!

Nice playing and generally a nice recording smile.gif but just couple of things that you might want to look at/consider .

On the recording I'd agree with Bogdan that the recording to me also sounds like it lacks stereo width and depth. It sits quite narrowly between the speakers and lacks 3 dimensionality. You might want to look at how you pan and adjust for the panning rules and you also might want to consider how you place instruments in the field not just for width but also for depth front to back.

The other thing I'd also add is that the format shift to mp3, to me, has ended up with a clipped file where much of it is taken in to the red and distorts unintentionally. This is despite what sounds like the use of a limiter and brickwall limiter on the track. If you wnat to avoid distortion in the mp3 you would need to redo the audio so that it peaks much lower than if you burn a wave for CDA.
