Tab Notation

Is there a link on this site that explains tab notation? I understand most of it except the letters (for example the Q and E at the top of a piece, and the L's shown on the lines of tab). Thanks for any help!

Practicing Scales

I have been following Andrews Cockburn's lesson "The Scales of Justice". My question is while learning these scales, should I be using Danilo Capezzuto's "spider" technique? I'm not too sure about the proper mechanics while playing through the notes. I don't want to start any bad habits in these early stages. Any advice will be appreciated

Hello, my name is Jason. I am 32 years old. I am from Georgia. I am a beginner to guitar playing, even though I did play back when I was a teenager. I didn't get too good though, learning only some chords and rythm parts to some songs I like. For these first couple of weeks I have been here I have mainly been reading Andrew Cockburn's theory lessons and learning the minor pentatonic scale boxes. This has helped me a great deal with knowing where to find notes all over the fretboard (something I didn't have a clue about before, other than the open strings I am struggling with my timing a bit, but maybe with a little more practice I will have it down. I am looking forward to meeting new people who play, and taking my playing to new levels.
