Why No Lessons On Actual Records?

GMC rocks. I’ve been a member for a couple of months and my techniques have improved massively; I can’t even keep up with all the new lessons that are posted!

However, am I alone in thinking that rather than have an ‘in the style of’ section, we should have lessons covering actual records? I mean, rather than have a lesson in the style of Jimi Hendrix, teach us how to play Hey Joe, or rather than a lesson in the style of Led Zep teach us the Rain Song.

What do other members think?

Its because of Copyrights, Kris could technically be sued for it, since he's making money off of it, atleast i think thats how it works

Check this site out, Kris also runs it and its free.

www.freelicks.net

I actually think Hey Joe is on there.

I have found other guitar teaching sites that are subscription based and have lessons in actual records. So it must be possible, I thought perhaps some kind of royality may need to be paid by the site.

I just think it would round of this excellent site.

When i first picked up guitar i wanted to learn other peoples songs. But I soon realised it wasnt the way to go!! Today I just want to comebine technique and theory to make my own music! I find this not only a great way to develop my own voice as a guitarist, but ALOT more fun too! smile.gif

I love playing whatever the GMC instructors produce, and i usually end up useing them as a base to make my own stuff!

Yes same here smile.gif Why play someone elses style, when you can eventually make up your own style that the world would wanna learn smile.gif ?

Scott, I can honestly say after 5 months of hard practice, youll never want to learn anyone else songs.

What i like to do is when i learn a song from another band, i switch it around and make it my own, add my own little somthing to the mix.

I agree, thats what happened to me !! I also agree with the Uncreator, its great to change stuff around and make your own! smile.gif

Another thing i figured, if you learn the skills GMC has to offer, eventually playing your fave songs wont be an issue!

I still love to play my favorite songs, they dont harm your playing, hell for me they improve it.

Also, whenever a band covers a song, they should always make it there own, just look at like....Children Of Bodom's "Somebody Put Something In My Drink", they kept the original Ramones groove, but addes 2 solo's, thats the kinds stuff i like to do smile.gif
