I think etude is term used for composition
which is made for practicing,kind a technical topic.
So it's not just random exercises,
it IS piece of music but involves some technical challenges as well. smile.gif

Oui! Etude means study, and Etudier means to study so an Etude (or in French une Etude) would mean a study.
