Nice take mate. I like your phrasing on this audio. It's true that it has some timing issues but it's a good first step to take the most from the lesson, and make the licks of your own.

Please share a post with the 3 tasks when you have it and I'll give you the grading and final comments on assignment 1.

Hi mate!! Killer job with the first assignment!!

Based on your submits these are your results:

TASK 1: 3 coins

TASK 2: 3 + 3 coins

TOTAL: 9/10 coins.

As you can see your submits are close to be flawless. The only reason why you don'w have a 10 is because Burn song could sound tighter. You just need to continue playing it every day to get more familiar with the riffs and chord slides. The improvisation is beautiful. smile.gif

Congratulations assignment 1 is passed!!

Hopefully tomorrow, I really want to nail the timing of the riff in the more unaccompanied parts so the groove isn't lost

That's great mate! Except by some little timing issues around 2:10, this is a very good take! Congrats on the work done for the first assignment.

Thanks Gabriel. Coming back into the riff after the chorus was one of my sticking points as there is little in the way of audio cues to rely on

ASSIGNMENT 2:

Goals:

- Minor phrasing
- Burn's Solo

TASK 1:

Learn the first two licks from Burn Solo:
https://youtu.be/K7W7HDfFhS0

Use your ears, any youtube tutorial or google for tabs. Practice it over a backing track or over the song.

TASK 2:

Learn this lesson: https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Simple-Aminor-Soloing/

Practice it over the backing track, and once you can play relatively well the licks, practice creating variations and mixing the licks with your own licks.

Exam and deadline:

By October 18th you'll have to share 3 videos:

- A video playing the licks from the A minor Lesson(4 coins)
- A second video improvising over the backing track. (3 coins)
- A video playing the licks learnt by the song Burn (3 coins)

Each of this videos will be evaluated (check the coins value below). You need to get at least 7 coins to pass. If you pass, we can continue, if you don't you will have a second "call".

Hi Gab,

Recently I've been getting back into the more Emo/Post Hardcore bands after listening to the Labeled podcast about the Tooth and Nail record label.

I'm going to go through some of the Metal Rhythm lessons and your Hardcore and punk lessons.

I seem to have missed out quite a few bands due to being a little older for the scene when it happened.

I love Story of the year, Thrice, etc.

Can you give some other listening recomendations.

I'll post my journey with the lessons here. as well as any of my own ideas.

I'm aware of my lack of discipline and consistency so I hope I can keep the depression at bay and maybe focus it on songwriting rather than just feeling useless biggrin.gif

At 47 am I too old to be an Emo Kid? I hope not!!!

Hi mate!! Great to hear from you here!

About motivation, I recommend you check this thread/book/vid: LINK.

Post-hardcore / Emo recommentions

There are lots... newer, older... but these are the first that came to mind. I also recommend you checking Paramore's Brand New Eyes album which is full of great songs, arrangements, and the mix is killer.

You plan sounds great! I'll be here checking your progress. biggrin.gif
