With yet an http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Chicken-Picking-Madness-Intermediate/ of Mate's Chicken Picking Series - I thought we would discuss chicken picking some more.
Now here is a question:
What is the difference between Chicken Picking & Hybrid Picking?
We have actually had this question a long time a go - but it's relevant again seeing recent lesson topics!
You could pick a chicken but never pick on a hybrid of any sort since it'd bite you....
Maybe we could say that Chicken Picking is a sub genre within Hybrid picking?
chicken is more stacatto, neh, not really, good question
i though they were the same thing
Looks like I hit the nail with this question - so far Fran is closest I think. But I am not expert on the topic... Let's see what other people say.
Not really sure, I believe you do more popping with the fingers when you chicken pick. Hybrid picking is bigger category, like Fran said, and it stands for using both pick and fingers in any kind of way.
In chicken picking you use both fingers and your pick, while in some hybrid picking techniques you use only your pick. So chicken picking falls into the category of hybrid picking
so why don't we just call it hybrid chicken ?
Hybrid picking is using your pick and your fingers to pick the notes.
Chicken picking is when you do the same, but you "pop" with your fingers and dampen the strings immediately after using your left hand.
As far as I know
Its obvious..
Chicken picking is using your fingers and pick just like what chicken would do.
Hybrid picking can include any kind of picking, fingers, nails, legs, whatever you can think of.
"Chicken pickin" is what finger picking is called here in the South. The word "hybrid" really wasn't part of the Southern farmers lexicon back in the day.
Check out the two kings of chicken pickin', Jerry Reed and Chet Atkins. Jerry Reed is the blonde dude, and if you can't tell, he's a real character.
Heres another video of Jerry Reed. I always preferred his music over Chet Atkins, its just more exciting. Meanest Chicken picker east of the Mississippi
Remember Grand Theft Auto: Vice City? This song was in that game.
I think Mudbone is right.
The way I think is chicken picking and hybryd picking is really the same thing.
Country and blues players call it chicken picking, and fusion players call it hybryd picking
You can call it whatever you want, there is no difference in technique...
