Hello GMC.

I was wondering if someone could help me.
I would realy like to tune my 6 string guitar into Standard B, so i can play some real metal (Cannibal Corpse, Amon Amarth, you name it).

But i cant realy find out how i do this?.

Should i get some special Strings for it?.
Should i go to my Guitar Store and ask if they could do it for me?.

Or is it simple and i can do it my self?.

Realy hope someone in here can help me out..

Hey mate!

What kind of a guitar do you own? Does it have a fixed bridge?

You usually need heavy gauge strings (0.11 - 0.54 and even heavier) stabdradr B tuning would mean B E A D G B E on a 7 string or B E A D F # B on a 6 string or on a baritone guitar.

Tell me what kind of a guitar you have and we can take it from there

At the moment i play on a Ibanez GRG170DXL BKN and a Epiphone G-310 SG..

Cool! So you'll need to use Thicker strings... starting with 0,11 or 0,13 as Cosmin said. In the future a 7 strings guitar could be a good choice for those styles...

I know a lot of bands that use regular fixed bridge guitars but tune them down to B or even Bb you have to experiment. In my opinion, the Epi Sg should be a killer axe with some heavy gauge strings on it what kind of pickups does it have?

As far i know its Humbucker (Humbucking Pickup)..

Thats atleast what it says in the description, got the standard ones that it had when i bought it.

you might want to find out what pick-ups are being used in the songs you are wanting to learn
the guitar you have may need a pick up that can better handle those low notes, and a common mistake ,is using to much gain when tuned this low ,less gain will clean the sound up

Very well pointed! If you intend on investing some money in your pickups, I would recommend Bareknuckle pickups! Look around on their site, as they have a very wide array of products and if you're in doubt, write them an email, giving them all the necessary details for a recommendation:

- type of guitar used (wood should be mentioned)
- amp owned
- enjoyed styles
- styles you'd like to cover with your new pickups
