God Bless the Interwebs, where no shame goes unpunished!! smile.gif This thread is about sharing completely awful and unfortunate album covers. I ran across a few that were just, simply, clinch worthy. Please share some if you have run across any smile.gif

Man.... what is it with these metal bands? laugh.gif I came to the conclusion that the worst album covers belong to metal bands biggrin.gif Oldschool ones or extreme metal ones biggrin.gif

Posted by: Ben Higgins Jun 4 2014, 10:49 AM

Pretty much any Scorpions album cover ! They're notorious biggrin.gif

WHAT? Iron Age is one of my FAVOURITE albums.

But it's the one by Mothers Finest. Not Vanlade, phew.. smile.gif smile.gif

I know, right? I can't imagine being in the room when these bands were saying "YES! THAT'S THE COVER WE WANT!!" hehehehehe smile.gif

But wait....it gets worse!!!

The one guy with the PINK KNEEPADS is ready! smile.gif So humiliating. I found a blog where a guy had a collection of these and I just had to share a few.

P.S. Ben is spot on as far as Scorpions covers smile.gif I should share a few of those next!

Posted by: Todd Simpson Jun 5 2014, 06:09 PM

My eyes are starting to burn from some of these smile.gif I won't ask where these came from!! smile.gif Just to add something a bit less bad to keep our heads from exploding but still pretty bad.

I had to find out if devastatin dave really lived up to his name..........

Kinda reminds of will smith when he thought he was a rapper smile.gif

I think we can conclude that he does.

Posted by: klasaine Jun 5 2014, 08:02 PM

That 'Orleans' record had a top 5 Billboard hit on it - Still The One, 1977.
And it still gets played on oldies radio.

<--- I had to add the "smiley"

I think Devastatin Dave may be the inspiration to this mean suburban thug punchin' us fools with his brutal rhymes...

Some if these are hilarious but most are actually disturbing. But these are (mostly) unknown artists so the design doesn't surprise me.

How about really famous bands and their worst album covers?

Posted by: klasaine Jun 6 2014, 01:10 AM

Two of the bands above, Orleans and Manowar, were both really famous over here and had 'hits'.

This is one of my favorites to bring up ...

1) It's on Capitol
2) these brothers made probably 30 records between the late 40s and the mid 60s
3) They were covered a lot by later rock and country artists
4) highly influential, especially for their close vocal harmonies
5) designed and built that actual set themselves - yes it's really burning!
6) made it into the top 20 country charts many times (one or two #1s)
7) they won a grammy (though not for this 'Satan' record)
8) Ira Louvin (Loudermilk) was famous for his drunkenness and womanizing

Posted by: Todd Simpson Jun 6 2014, 07:44 AM

Well, pretty many ANY stryper album, so..

Posted by: Cosmin Lupu Jun 6 2014, 07:53 AM

To be honest, Motley Crue can be included on the list:

The 80s were definitely a weird time - lots of great music appeared then, but in the same lots of bad music and weird examples of looks...

Posted by: Becca Jun 6 2014, 11:11 AM

Just a few words on Devastatin' Dave and Blazing Hazen...........................................................................
...

Sorry, I am actually speechless.

Posted by: wollace03 Jun 6 2014, 11:38 AM

I think some of this can´t be real.......

are we all to narrowminded to understand brilliant comedy?
or are some of the covers really meant to be cool?

tata--... but the winner is:
Blazing Hazen

Absolutely! Style, technique, authenticity, raw talent and an element of danger..

Are just some of the things he doesn't have.
A clear winner. laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif

In the 70's and 80s we - as fans - did not want our rock stars (or potential rock stars) to resemble in any way ourselves style wise. They had to be bigger than life, weird, fucked up looking, asexual, multi sexual, beautiful or really hideous, etc. *As long as they didn't look like real people. At the time those 'real' album covers - Crue, Scorpions, Poison, Stryper, etc. were barely commented on except from a few Christian 'mom' organizations. Yeah, we thought the Man-o-war covers were a little over the top.

Grunge (early 90s) was the reaction to all that - "hey, these guys wear jeans, flannel shirts and hiking boots ... just like us".

And on and on it goes ...

HAHAHA - like the part in Spinal Tap where Nigel doesn't understand that the Smell the Glove cover is sexist - and he asks, "what's wrong with being sexy?"

That's why I still love grunge biggrin.gif

Dunno man, as I said, a lot of the 70-80s music was great, but there was way too much weirdness for my taste. For instance, a nice and creative kind of weird, in my idea, would be Wes Borland from Limp Bizkit:

Some things are of their time. All I can say is ... you had to be there.

No value judgement one way or the other (I f'n hated bands like Poison - I still think they sucked) but trust me, in about 10 or 15 years ... you too will say that ('you had to be there') to someone.

There's a whole art behind his body paint biggrin.gif This dude is a very talented artist and I like his music and paintings alike - he also paints and draws on walls and canvas.

Even though I don't 'love' bands like Limp Bizkit or Slip Knot I totally dig that they dress up and try to scare the shit out of your parents. For me, that's a big part of R&R! I don't want my stars (movie, music, sports, whatever) to be the 'everyman'. I want them to be STARS! Anyway that's my very 70s/80s aesthetic.

*That's one reason why I love these two ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JvMXVHVr72A

I would be curious to see/hear them 'live' (Die Antwoord) and see how they 'pull it off'.
They definitely push some boundaries in their videos.

I've seen them live a couple of years ago. I think they just had their second album out.
I was soooo good. They made a huge show out of it and are as freaky on stage as in their (older) videos.

I'll see if I can attend the festival - it's called Electric Castle and I just found out it's in the same period in which we are headed for Brasov (another city in Romania) where we will perform with Karnivool.

Here's the official poster so that you may see the line-up - it's mainly electronic music:
