Imo you don't have to worry about that a lot,
some chord grips are leads will lead to that, distancing pinky from other fingers. You mentioned problems when playing fast tho. Yeah, if you just think of that it could be problem. But in the reality it doesn't happen cause there is no time to keep pinky too far from fingerboard when playing fast AND using pinky. I would mention Guthrie Govan here tho, he playing without pinky very often, keeping it far away from other fingers. But his pinky is also very very well trained so when he does need it, it jumps into game like a bullet and execute everything.
