Hey ChrisGLP! Welcome to your thread for Gab's Army.
This is some info that you've shared with me:
"I need help concerning the bending and vibrato.
My daily routine at the moment is
1. warm up (15 minutes)
2. practise a lesson (30 minutes)
3. guitar gym (up to 1 hour)
I try to practise each day 2 hours (ok, it is not possible each day)"
Could you please share here some of your videos to let me check your overall playing?
Awesome being part of Gab's Army...
Here a collection of my latest Videos:

As you have said, bendings and vibratos are .....
Ok! The current plan looks good. Here I'll be always ready to monitor your practice so feel free to share your videos playing the lessons and also the exercises from the guitar gym.
It would be good if you can add 30 minutes each day (or take it from the guitar gym) to practice bending and vibrato.
Bending (15 minutes):
Vibrato (15 minutes):

thx Gab... I practise the next days (weeks.....years) "bendings" and "vibrato"...
I had the desire to "control" my progress also with these 2 lessons:
http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/solo-guitar/john-frusciante-lesson/
http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/D-Minor-Bending/
Is that ok for you?
hi Gab... could you please check if this is "ok" only concerning the rhythm... at the bendings I am still working
It's much better! There is still some room to make it sound tighter but now it's very close. You tend to go after the bit in some parts of this one.
Hi Gab... sorry for these "Silly" questions concerning the vibrato....
Is it necessary to hit the next pitch during a vibrato? Example: I make a vibrato at the 5th fret "c" on the g-String. Do I have to bend the string to the "d" during the vibrato? Or is it also ok not to do such "extreme" bendings during a vibrato like in Ben's lesson?
When do I make "small" bendings during a vibrato and when "extreme" bendings?
Hi Chris, no it's not necessary to always do extreme vibrato. Ben's lesson is great for training your vibrato technique and to gain strength and control. Vibrato is a very personal technique and it's one of those elements that makes each guitarist unique so it's ok to try different kinds of vibrato and also to listen to different guitarists that you like and see how they manage vibrato.
This technique is related to expression so combining different kinds, speeds, and widths will expand your playing and will give you more tools for phrasing. If you check the whole Ben's vibrato series you'll see that there is a classical one, another called "circular" and each of them can be soft, hard, slow or fast depending on your phrasing and the backing track.
Hi Gab, I am still practising, practising.....
What do you think about this rec?
Hi Chris, this one shows some improvements. Your timing is getting better and the second bend last bend sounds very good! The first phrases are the ones that are less tight while in the second half you sound more precise. Please keep on working in this way.
Hi Gab, I want to give a little sign of life
At the Moment I am always practising bendings, vibrato and Speed... and its getting better in small steps.... as I already has mentioned, the guitar gym helps me a lot...
I hope I can present you the next rec soon...
Hi Chris, great to hear from you. Thanks for the update. I've just answered your question about Sweep Picking at the Guitar Gym thread. Check it out!
Feel free to share videos of your practice to let me give more specific feedback.
Hi Gab, completely other question...
At the end (the last guitar sequence) of Powerslave from Maiden... which scale is this? Phrygian Major Mode?
Hi Chris! What minute/second of the song?
hi Gab... this last lick...
....
Ah yes, that's called Phrygian Major Mode which is a mode from the Harmonic minor scale.
Hi Gab... here a little "christmas surprise" for you...
This is the first backing track I have ever done... (I have bought me EZKeys-Piano)
Merry Christmas!!
Hi Chris!! This sounds so beautiful!! This kind of music elevates our spirit, and that's what I've felt when listening to this song. Did you play this by once? How was it done?
Thanks a lot for this nice present. You'd made my day.
I have made this backing with EZKeys Grand Piano... With this software you can choose different styles (ballads, blues, etc.). Each style consists of different modules (intro, verse, bridge, chorus, etc.). Now you have the possibility to combine these different modules as you want and create the chords and speed... and much more possibilities...
meanwhile I have made my second backing....
Do you think thats something for a collab with vocals and guitars?
Wou! That's a cool way to make music. So you choose even the pattern / arpeggio played for each chord?
I like how this sounds! And creating a song collab from this one sounds like a great idea!
This has remembered me to these two beautiful albums:
Wow... that Sounds awesome...
yes, there ar many different patterns which you can combine with chords and speed, and in a few seconds you can change the key
of each song and and and ... It is awesome! (and very good to practise scales in each key)
If you want to start a collab it would be a great thing....
In the future I will make much more piano backings....
Cool! Now we are working on the punk rock collab (I hope to see you there!), but this could be the next one!
http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/guitar_forum/index.php?showtopic=56403
Ok, Gab, I have tried to Play something for the collab....
I've missed it at first! Check out my comment there!

Hi Gab, this is only a test to insert a YT Video direct in the post.... You can find the Sound file in the punk collab....
it doesn't work.... I don't know why?
Ok.... now it works....
yes, it works! Thanks mate.
Hi Gab.... I am still practising vibrato, bendings, alternate picking, etc. I hope I can rec a lesson next week.... but it takes time to improve all These techniques....
One question: You often write in assessments "Your tone could be warmer...." (as in Phils last rec)
How can I make the tone "warmer"? What should I use to make it warmer?
....and many thx again for this unbelievable awesome result at the piano collab!!!!
We Need a new collab! A day without a GAB-Collab is a lost day!!!
Hi Chris,
there is a combination of things that can help to make your tone sound warmer. The faster way to try is experimenting with EQ. You can try adding bass and a bit of mids, or you can also try lowering treble and/or prescence. If this changes don't help to get what you want, I recommend experiment changing something of this:
- head used: You can try other amps to see if the initial color is warmer.
- cabinet: The cabinet choice can also affect the EQ balance.
- Adding a pedal. I sometimes add a tube screamer or rat to give a different vibe to my tone.
- Experimenting with the mic choice and position. The sound that you get with a dynamic sm 57 can be very different compared with a condenser.
The tone is build up by the sum of all these things. That's what makes it so complex but amazing. Experiment, record, listen to your solos, compare with other guitarists. We are always in the search of the perfect tone.
Hi Gab, after a "little" break with this awesome lesson I have made a new rec.
I want to insert it in the rec zone to improve my last bad result.
What do you think?
I am still practising vibrato, bendings, speed, collabs, etc..... (I think its getting better in small steps)
Hi Chris! Good job.
This lesson is sounding really good! Your bending is on pitch and vibrato starts to feel more natural and related with the backing track. It's good to continue playing this one in order to feel more and more comfortable. It's also a good idea to create your own variations of the solo over the backing track.
Thx Gab!! I have learned a lot since I am here at GMC.... and I am practising a lot....
Do you have an advice for me for Speed Training? At the Moment I can Play 16th notes at 110 bpm with alternate picking...
but I have the Feeling that I could not go any further...
Could you record a video of you playing at your limit?
ok... I make a Video "at the Limit"....
Great.
Hi Gab, see my PM.....
Hi Chris,
I've received your video. I noticed that you are not holding your pick with the tip of your right hand thumb. I think that you can get more precision if you hold your pick more like this:http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/guitar_forum/index.php?showtopic=56705&view=findpost&p=728741.
The movement that you are doing seems to be right, starting from your wrist, and not moving your fingers, however your hand doesn't look comortable.
Besides the most musical lessons that you are practicing, I think that you'll find these exercises helpful and effective to train your alternate picking technique:
http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/guitar_forum/index.php?showtopic=42832&st=0&start=0
There you'll find the exercises that helped me to polish my technique so adding the Alternate picking exercises to your diary routine will help a lot. The first lessons (3, 4, 5, 6, 11,13) are more to adjust movement, then 15 is for speed.
Hi Gab, thx so much , that gives me hope....
With your feedback I have noticed that I sometimes hold the pick not correct...
F***K, such beginner mistakes after 16 months playing the guitar.....
The next weeks I concentrate only on alternate picking (your exercises) and my daily guitar gym.....
Not beginner mistakes! I have very advanced students that come to class for the first time and we have to adjust the way they hold the pick to expand their technique limits.
Hi Gab, I have also practised vibrato with this lesson from Ben...
What do you think?
Since I hold the pick as you have shown in your pictures its getting much more better with the alternate picking!
The control is better and the wrist and the forearm are not so cramped.
Hi Chris, this is a great take! You vibrato is very good, and everything else is also sounding great. Congrats!
Hi Gab, whats the best way to play sequences like these "fast" (down- upstrokes in combination with hammer on and pull offs??)
It's from this lesson:
https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/solo-guitar/pentatonic-solo/
Thx Chris
Hi Chris,
there is not a best way, there are different ways and the results regarding "sound" or "feel" is different. If you want a more Gilbert/Wylde style sound, you should go for alternate picking. If you prefer a more fusion/kotzen sound combining picking with legato is the way to go. I think that the second option is easier but being able to play it in both ways gives you more sonic possibilities.
Hi Gab, at the moment I make a lot of alternate picking exercises as you suggested.
Problem: as long as I stay on one string, its no problem to play 16th notes at 120 bpm for example, but when I want to change the string its over (for example from the d to the g string). I need 3 or 4 bars until I am back in the rhythm.... Problem is to change the string at "higher" bpms.
What can I do?
Hi mate,
yeah, that's the tricky part of Alternate Picking. Please use the crossing strings lessons from my ITC, as well as the outsides and insides lessons, and share a video of you playing the exercises in a few days to let me check if there is anything to adjust regarding your movements.
Hi Gab... here I am back for "intensive altenate picking work" as you have suggested in the email...
I wanna start from the beginning.... but where?
To "relax" and to do something different I have started to practise this lesson:
https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/major-soloing-no-4th/
Chris
Nice choice!
What about starting here?
https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Alternate-Picking-Basics/
https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/legato_and_picking_beginner/
https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Hand-Synch/
Hey Gab..... the lesson from Muris is perfect for me to start.... legato and ap in one lesson....
Thx
Excellent! Let's go for it!
