I just sat through a whole vid of Devin Townsend talking about guitar playing and composing. It's really interesting, especially when he talks about using octave chords so he can choose different tonalities afterwards with his vocals and whatnot. It's really worth a watch to anyone who's writing their own songs etc..

You don't even have to be a fan to appreciate this.. I've only heard bits of Devin's music over the years but still I was fascinated.

To me, it's all about the beautiful musical landscape that he creates... It's like there's a whole universe in each song.. The intro and the beginning parts from this piece have stunned my soul each time:

Haha, yeah. I thought it was funny he said that when earlier he's like '..hit this C# here, and another one here..'

I don't think he's quite as musically illiterate as he'll have as believe. He probably knows enough to help himself figure out what he needs to do and no more. A bit like me tongue.gif

Haha! Wise words mate smile.gif We may seem illiterate in comparison to a Berklee genius or so, but we all know our way around things - as I am sure he does tongue.gif Who knows, if he compares himself with Steve Vai who knows music as his native tongue, it makes sense laugh.gif

I don't know any Jack... oh wait laugh.gif Now, on a more serious tone, I can't wait for this whole holiday season to end so that I can start delving into that Mick Godrick book - 'The advancing guitarist'

He recorded the vocal tracks for the 'Sex and religion' album that Steve sorted out in 1993. Check out the famous video, maybe you know it already, but here it goes... Devin was just...19 if I am not mistaken smile.gif
