hi, i'm trying to get a sound out of my effects and i'm struggling a bit. i've heard this sound a few times lately in various reggae/dub influenced bands. My set up is strat - boss pw1 wah - boss od1 - line 6 m9 - boss dd6 - roland cube 40xl amp so im sure i have the neccersary gear. I think its a combination of maybe wah, phaser, delay and reverb. It would be great if someone could give me some specific settings on the pedals to try please.

the sound im looking for is throughout this song but if you liten from 0:11 to 0:31 you will hear what i mean.

thanks very much

Hi mate. I think that you're right regarding the effects that you think they are using. It's difficult to know the exact setting because it depends on each part of their gear as well as yours. I think that the most important effect there is phaser. It seems to be set up with very slow and deep. For any reason I believe that there is maybe a chorus there, also with a slow frequency setting.

Start experimenting with both phaser and chorus and then turn on your wah wah and set it in a fixed position. Your tone should be close to then start going slight changes to get that tone.

thanks very much gabriel. he uses an old boss multi effects with only one pedal for modulation so prob no chorus as it would be on the same pedal as the phaser which that pedal won't allow. i've seen him do this live and a few other band too. i've been experimenting with phaser all day but still not getting it...

Experiment also with the mix between dry signal and the fx. If he has a multiFx this is possible to be one. If you are using a pedal, sometimes you don't have this option unless you us it with the loop of your amp.

What boss multifx model is he using?

I think there's a phaser and a wah on there, but I may be wrong, Gabriel's more experienced smile.gif

I just read the whole thread and I agree with the fact that you need to experiment with the effects - a phaser is definitely needed - the MXR Phase 90 would need to be set at a very low rate to achieve this - just experimented a bit with mine and I got pretty close.

Gabe is right - they have some gear you have some gear - the only connection here is your ear laugh.gif I also made a rhyme out of it. Joking aside, try to make the best of it with what you have and why not, make a recording to share with us too.
