Well, I've decided to not upload anything here for 3 months (nor anywhere on the web). As part of my 1 year anniversary of guitar playing .

Starting lessons with a dude and going to make this thread for a before and after(3months) I get real serious about my playing. That means no noodling around for hours on end anymore!

I just really want to know If I can do music as a career or not. Only have two more years to figure that out .

Just for you guys to see the difference. Please be super critical on me guys, it will only help.

The playing is really good!! But are you using any scales? I dont know why, but something didnt sound right. But the playing was perfect.

Hey Tjchep,

I like your initiative. I believe you are saying that you are going to focus on nothing but guitar for three months and then post your progress afterward. That's a good thing to do IMO. That should show you a real measure of advancement. That also means no noodling which you have stated. I'm in a similar boat. I have noodled for years and not really gained the advances that I could have otherwise, so I applaud your approach.

As for the video, the first think I saw is that I liked your vibrato. It looks like you are playing that well. What I would like to see is more "flow" or transitions between the riffs that you played there. It seems that you are stopping between them and it gives the impression that there are some things that are missing. I don't mean to imply that you should play something just because there might be empty space if you intend for it to be that way. That certainly works in a lot of music. What I am saying is that to me, it would sound much smoother with smaller transitions leading into the riffs that you really enjoy and that would make it more interesting.

I think that practicing only scales until you know them very well might help. I am thinking of David Wallimann's lessons in particular. Perhaps you do this already, but try just doing that and only that for a while. This is what I am trying to work on myself and I can tell you after years of not really knowing scales and how they work and just playing riffs and stuff has left me with a steeper hill to climb trying to figure it out later on.

Sorry to be a wind bag here, but I think what you are doing is a great idea and I do think you are good!

I think you have a strong technique and good musical ideas.
I like the choice of scale, but I'm not sure that you did that on purpose.
You are playing an A minor pentatonic scale over a G minor blues.
That scale sounds out, I like it, but is that the desired effect?
I would use that scale from time to time to sound a little "out", but you should do that only for a little bit in my opinion. I would build most of your lead in G minor pentatonic.
Hope that makes sense.
Overal I think you have what it takes. Great job!

This seems like an interesting experiment!, we will be looking forward to your next video in 3 months and see what happens!

I liked those licks, as has been mentioned they sound a bit out of scale but really nice nevertheless!, so good job, and keep the hard work

Hah, I think I played in the wrong key, I think its in E minor, or A major, I played in A minor, I think it might be G minor.. I'll figure out and I'll re upload it again In a bit.

@ Jeff, I know my scales perty darn well, its just I haven't developed my ear for them quite yet . Though, they could use a little more. (practice)
