I use fender heavy=)
and dunlop USA 0.96 mm.
both are very good

I use 2mm thick picks.

Sometimes really thin ones like .52mm for some nice open acoustic strumming.

Fender Jazz Mediums for Electric :>
&
Dunlop Stubby Jazz Picks 3.0mm for Acoustic

Jazz3 exclusively for electric.

I use thin "normal" thin picks for acoustic - I dont care to much about the brand.

Posted by: DanielM Jul 7 2006, 02:00 PM

2mm jim dunlop usa.

i cant go back to 1mm now.

Posted by: lezenko Jul 8 2006, 01:32 PM

Depends on what im doing.... for solos and main riffs i use a really stiff plec, its a 1.5 jim dunlop

For strumming i use an ultra thin 0.5 sharkfin which does the job reallly easy

Posted by: Liam Jul 9 2006, 05:42 PM

use your teeth like jimi hendrix . or that other dude yngwie malmsteen.
Do they really use there teeth . or is it just tapping haha ..

i use dunlop , big stubby 2.0 mm. and that blue plastic thingy

I use a pick called " Hot Licks " . It's made of solid copper.

Extra Thin-.005
Thin - .006
Lt Med - .007
Medium - .008
Heavy - .009
Ex Heavy -.010

They come three in a pack for about $6.50, I use .009 They have great controll and you can get a lot of cool sounds from these picks. They play better when the tip wears down rounder. When a pick does not bend the better controll you have of playing fast leads.
You can order them from " GUITAR CENTER " they have to look them up in thier pick catalog book.
There is also a pick called a " Key Stone " Which I know a bounch of Heavey Metal Player sware by. it's stone that is very rounded at the tip. Great for rolling that pick around the strings. Cost alot more. What I remeber over $10.00 a pick. but last for ever if you don't lose it.

HotLicks
Dunlop Mfg. Inc Box 846 Benicia, CA 94510 U.S.A

You Might want to give it a try. Like I say once the pick wears down a bit. The faster the picking. A pick will last me around a year depending how much I play.

I've started to use Ibanez Grip Wizard Heavy picks. Great when youve been playing for an hour or 2, and the hand are getting a bit sweaty smile.gif

Interesting. I've never heard of a solid copper pick. I'll check them out and see what they're like. Thanks.

I use extra large black jazz 3 but they just don't feel right for me so I just ordered some dunlop jazz stubby picks of gauges 1.00, 2.00, and 3.00 mm. I'll let you know how they are.

jazz 3 for lead
jazz 3 xl if i play system or something with a bit of rythem

i reccomend all of you to start using jazz 3.
you need to retrain your picking but its worth every second and you will become much more versetile

Posted by: RIP Dime Feb 1 2009, 09:19 PM

I'm using Dunlop tortex picks, normal and triangle shapes.

I used to use Jazz III picks a lot, but wasn't crazy about the sound, although for shredding I don't think there is a better sounding or playing pick than the jazz III, but the more I find my voice as a player the less those picks work for me.

The normal shaped Tortex picks, or the one Muris sent me(Ernie Ball Heavy I think), sound great, feel solid and give a nice percussive sound when I slam the strings as hard as I can(for maximum rock lol).

Posted by: bsamn Feb 1 2009, 09:28 PM

I started of Dunlop Sharp Tortex 1.5, played with for quite a while.
Switched to JazzIII and have never looked back. They are the best picks imo.

I played with V-picks for a while, but after a while dint like em anymore.

Posted by: Toni Suominen Feb 1 2009, 09:56 PM

Jazz III's all the way, and for acoustic strumming some medium Dunlops.

Jazz 3, I begun to use them as soon as I read that Petrucci uses them too(in his Rock discipline), that was back in 2000...
But I still love Petrucci, and he is right about jazzIII:)

Posted by: nawak Jun 24 2009, 03:39 PM

I use 1.00 mm Brain Picks

Posted by: maharzan Jun 24 2009, 04:25 PM

I have tried all sorts of picks. In the beginner I used to play acoustics mostly and loved 0.75, 0.85mm picks Jim Dunlop, all the time even when I played electric guitars later. People suggested me to use thicker picks but I just felt there was no flexibility and picks got 'stuck' in between strings.

But as I explored, I started loving 1mm picks. Soon, I felt love with smaller size picks, it fitted well between that fingers and was easy to play.

Recently, I tried and JAZZ pick, don't know 2mm? I liked the smaller pick with sharp point edge as it was just easy play faster licks.

Just few days ago, I tried a bigger Jazz picks and I m loving it. I finally found my pick. smile.gif

It says Jazz III Jim Dunlop XL series. It works for me.

Picks as everything is your choice and what feels easy for you.

Posted by: Jesse Jun 24 2009, 04:37 PM
