I have been teaching myself to play elec. guitar for the past 3 yrs. The only music I like to learn how to play is hard rock and metal. Metallica, AC/DC, Godsmack, Alice In Chains, etc. Dont know why, but I have to believe it is the heavy crushing sound that I get off on. Naturally the first few months was learning basic chords, scales and lollipop songs which was ok, but after I got somewhat better I just could not play the Carpenters, Bread, and that sort of music. It just did not make me what to pick up the guitar. First songs I learned to play all the way and not just riffs were Back in Black, Sad but True, Rock and Roll Damnation. I practice a least an hour everyday with my Strat and it is a total release from the daily grind.

The best move I ever have done was to see Metallica in Oakland this past December. They played with Lamb of God, who is great in their own right, but Metallica was unreal. On the drive home I could not wait to grab my Strat and go into my pit, 6ft x 8ft room off my garage, and crack it up at 3:00 am! I dont have any neighbors around me as I live off a county road about 300 ft from the closest house. My 17 year old son went with me to the concert and he was blown away by the whole scene.

Look forward to hearing from you guys. Guitar is where its at!

Paul C
