If you are still using something awful like windows media maker I"ve got good news. AVID (the software pros use to edit video) has a FREE version. WINDOWS based or Mac based. Free, free, as in Free smile.gif They finally figured out that having a free version is a good idea. It used to cost thousands of dollars and require additional hardware just to run. Now anyone with a computer can run the same kit the pros use.

Here is a "Getting Started" vid. So there ya go, free Video Editing Software and your first training vid. Go!!!! smile.gif

and a quick vid on importing.

Now that Adobe is charging MONTHLY for the priv of using Premiere, and Apple has ruined Final Cut Pro by putting training wheels on it, I'm looking at making the switch to AVID myself. Avid is what pros still use. They don't use Vegas, they certainly don't use windows movie maker, and fewer and fewer are using final cut and premiere for various reasons. I thought AVID was going to be replaced by FINAL cut, and it was starting to be for a while, but not anymore.

Thanks Todd, I use Movie Maker, to be honest it's fine for me but it does have its limitations.

Cheers buddy.

UPDATE: It wouldn't install for some reason, kept saying files were missing. I download again tomorrow.

Success is not obtained overnight. It comes in instalments; you get a little bit today, a little bit tomorrow until the whole package is given out. The day you procrastinate, you lose that day's success.

It's a HUGE upgrade from Movie Maker smile.gif It's what the pros have been using for years. It's still considered an industry standard. Learning how to use it can get you freelance work as an editor. Anyone with Avid Skills always has a marketable talent!

Here is a Video step by step for download and install of Media Composer First on mac. You have to sign up for an avid account and be logged in to use the software. Are these the steps you used?

This is what it should look like once it's installed and working. It will support full HD in real time once the clips get imported (they are processed on import) It will install the avid app center which will let you install a free version of pro tools and other free bits smile.gif

It worked the second time but I didn't get the questions about what I use so that they can provide the right resources. All I did differently was to click on the .exe file within the zip file, I didn't unzip the entire contents first. wink.gif

I'm bad at programs, websites and platforms that require being logged in unless they don't log the user out automatically. I keep forgetting my password 100% of the time, so I need to recover it for every use.

The good news is that AVID will remember your password so it's not an issue for using media composer.
If you don't have a Gmail account, go create one, it's free, then you can use GOOGLE DOCS to keep your passwords. You can tell your browser to remember your google password so you don't have to put it in each time. Then keep your passwords at http://docs.google.com in a document. You can always just copy and paste if you forget it.

I want to exercise and push my brain and memory, so I'll probably not use these methods. If Avid can memorize the user, then it's good enough but I don't want to rely on such tools in the long run smile.gif

In your previous post you mentioned that you can never remember your passwords so I was suggesting a method to help you remember them. smile.gif You can use the auto remember function for getting in to the application and just pop over to the avid web site to test your memory and see if you can remember your login. Best of both worlds

There is a software version of ILOCK these days that will manage all of your licenses related to ilock. I've always hated the ilock system, glad they finally went software.

Total ball ache, I have iLock, I have Avid Link, Media Composer isn't showing up in iLok and ProTools First is showing a 2015 installation.

When I try to open MC I get a dialogue box saying "Unable to retrieve entitlement data", when I try to open PT I get a dialogue box saying "Error, missing PACE authorisation for Pro Tools. Please insert the necessary iLok or rejoin your cloud session and restart Pro Tools".

I think this is why I gave up on Pro Tools a few years back. Pain in the proverbial mad.gif

UPDATE:
I managed to get PT to open, I hadn't activated it on my laptop, I opened a new project, closed it and it said it was too large for the cloud and that I had to manage my cloud storage which I presume means buying some more, it hadn't even got a single sound file in it mad.gif

Egad dude. Sounds like your having all kinds of trouble. For me the Media Composer was just a few clicks. Let me start an HD project and save it etc. I'm not sure why it's acting so funky on your machine. Then again I'm not on a windows machine so I can't be much help. Typically, running windows update, rebooting, plugging the ilock in to a port instead of a hub (for some reason), and a reinstall, typically sorts things. But even that is a decent bit of work and still may not sort it. I wish I knew what was going on with your system as this install should be pretty smooth. sad.gif

Anyone on a windows machine able to get Media Composer to run on their machine?

I don't have the physical iLok just the software one, I might uninstall the lot and start again as there are bits from a few years ago on there, maybe some update mismatch?

Cheers

It's okay but I'm more comfortable with Movie Maker. It will probably take time to learn it properly.

I like resolve smile.gif Sadly it's even more complicated than media composer as it's not really a non linear editor, it's really a color correction suite. I shared it on GMC when they first released it as free. Sadly, the hardware requirements are a bit stiff and at least once GMCer sorta bricked her laptop briefly.
