Hi there! Well, im in doubt between the Line6 TonePort and the MAudio Fast Track...my idea is record the guitars with good quality then the vocals and the bass (with my guitar). Someone knows them?

Line6 Tone Port UX1

M Audio Fast Track

The prices (here in Argentina) are: the Line6 around U$S 283 and the M Audio around U$S 216

Help Please!! biggrin.gif

I use toneport ux2.Now that M-audio card is probably very good too , BUT I think you don't get any modeling software with it..So in order to capture cool sounding guitars you will have to either connect from a multieffect processor unit (external) (like Boss , Toneworks , Pod), or use a microphone to capture your guitar sound from your amp..(which isn't easy to do in order to sound good), or you will have to buy a software like Guitar Rig 3 and similar..All in all that M-audio interface will handle only the "transferring signal properly into the computer part".
Now on the other hand toneports (gx, ux1, ux2) are really straightforward devices..They all feature the same Gearbox software which allows you to emulate different amps/cabs and effects (which is very important for guitar recording!)...It has a decent mic preamp so it does the vocals very well too..Also it has some bass amps emulations too in the software so its cool for bass too..And you can always use the mic input for recording your own guitar amp for example..Basicly in my opinion it does the practically same job as M-audio + it has valuable addons in the terms of Gearbox software it features.
All in all I find my toneport very easy , good sounding and it does handle all my home recording need very well.

edit: I wouldn't recommend playing bass parts on guitar , but rather programing bass tracks in midi in your daw and assigning them to be played on a appropriate Virtual Instrument (VST) like : broomstick bass..It will sound much much better smile.gif

Glad to be helpful, if you have any questions regarding toneport I'm available smile.gif

I also find it practical because you are basically plugging a jack from guitar straight into the device and tuning your guitar sound inside the software..One thing I forgot , when you use toneport you need to plug in your headphones/or external speakers/pc speakers to the toneport , in order to hear how it sound..So if you have some good quality ones you will be very satisfied.

I tought that automatically my speakers will reproduce the guitar sound...so i got to plug in the toneport to my pc sound board? I guess i can use my guitar amp too... if i plug in the tone port to the headphone socket of my amp..

Thanks again!

I have one of these.
http://www.alesis.com/multimix8usb

This is great and gives you more functionality in my opinion. There are 2.0 USB and firewire versions.

Also it reacts as a recording sound card in your machine. You can plug in multiple things to record.

At it was only $150us.

Yeah I said that because most people thing it works that way.Toneport acts as a external sound card and transfers data through usb port. You integral sound card in your pc is in most cases bad so its the only reason you are looking for a new interface..Integrated sound card have a latency issue and not so good sound quality. When you plug in toneport , you can connect speakers directly to it and set in the windows os parameters that every sound from your PC should go through toneport. (only down side is that toneport doesn't play midi files)..Just think of it as external sound card and forget the one you have in your pc.Regarding guitar amp , yes you can connect it that way (I don't know what sound quality you'll get you have to test), but in most cases you are going to get very useful tones going directly from guitar to toneport and playing with its embedded software.
