GMC Forum _ PRACTICE ROOM _ Hello
Posted by: Mihai Sorohan Jan 7 2014, 11:47 AM
Hi
For some time I was keeping an eye on the lessons here but I'm new to this forum, so let me introduce myself.
My name is Mihai Sorohan and I'm a musicohoolic Actually I am a trumpet player and a guitar hobbyist/ enthusiast. Here are some really cool lessons, I especially like Stephane's jazz-fusion videos, very clear and easy to understand while quite complex on the theory/harmony/substitutions...etc.
Even if quite late for Christmas, I would like to show you one of my latest things I've done, a version of "Vitae Lux" composed by Frode Alnæs, me on trumpet, guitar and some of the keyboards:

Way too many good musicians (yet never enough), feel a bit lost, but I might try. Thanks for the invitation.

Hey there, welcome to GMC. I played a bit of trumpet when I was younger.
As far as collabs go… the more people that join in, the more we get to hear different flavors added to the mix.

Darius is right GMC is a place in which collaboration is a word with many meanings - all leading to one common goal: Development for everyone. And let's face it, your playing is very good so you can definitely come up with something nice Looking forward to have you aboard mate!

I play a bit of sax. We can start an improvised jazz horn band section.

GMC horn section...HOW COOL IT COULD BE !
Posted by: Mihai Sorohan Jan 10 2014, 01:29 AM
Now that's a cool idea.
Just think, you would make some jazz/funk/soul/blues lessons, but before, when you make the backing track, you send a MIDI with the line and tempo to the "GMC Brass Section" and you'll have your brass recorded live
Meanwhile, I have some free trumpet and brass loops that you could use if you want, see my sig.
Those are not really the best, were recorded with my old gear in a not treated room and I tried to hide the room reflections with a reverb, so... Well, as soon as my "music room" is ready I will make some new brass loops pack, mostly in E and A, for guitarists

Welcome to GMC :-)
Nice Frode Alnæs cover mate, great song :-)

These loop packs are popular enough out of what I know.. Have you thought of getting them featured in famous pluggin packs?
Who knows - 'SoroHORNS' might sound like a cool pack name.

For now I have some muted trumpet Kontakt patch and some other stuff, a http://tekit-audio.com/products/instruments/recsoprano/, a free choir patch with vowel morphing and my glockenspiel is featured in a high end hardware/software pack under a non-disclosure clause.
I will make a brass VSTi but not with loops, quite hard to fit them to everything, but of course for such nice and supportive community the "real deal" is a "must"

Do you live solely off music there, or you're into another field as well?

Teaching trumpet, conducting a brass band and playing in a jazz big-band. I still keep doing my thing, a little bit composing and "doodling music" which sometime ends up in games or short videos, nothing too fancy.
Now I want to pick up the guitar again and do something with this, make an album, have some collabs, you know, if you don't use a skill you'll soon forget it and lose it...

Amazing man!
I am really happy to hear that you are so active as a musician in a country which has such high standards in respect to life in general! This is how I see things from the outside, but maybe you can share more of the inside view
