GMC Forum _ Bands and Guitarists _ Question!

Posted by: Young Guitarist Apr 17 2008, 03:18 PM

I didnt find any thread to post this in to, altough i might be tired and missed it, but anyway!

I started playing guitar yesterday, and i was wondering if this would be good to learn

http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/solo-guitar/tapping-from-heaven/

I seem to get the hang of it, and it sounds awesome, ive learnt some of the basic tapping Kris learned me in that tutorial. But suddenly all i hear in my head is the beginners 1-2-3 guide, so all im thinking is "1-2-3" "1-2-3" Argh xD Anyway! The main question is, will i be cabable of doing it? it doesnt look to advanced, and it sounds so awesome!

Oh, as some of you might know, im not fammiliar with this "pro" talk, i dont understand "The backing track’s chord progression is Dm, C, and Bb. The TAPPING IS the "T." " Its something i should know, please dont blame me, i got my guitar yesterday and i have no teacher what so ever, thats why i love this site smile.gif

I think you could pull it off after a few days or a week of working on it. I still find it difficult to change frets with my tapping hand, and I learned how to tap about 3 months ago. It'll be hard, but I think you can do it. smile.gif

Posted by: Pi38 Apr 17 2008, 03:45 PM

No problem. I hope you can do it. smile.gif

"The backing track’s chord progression is Dm, C, and Bb. "

some theory lessons should help you understand that.

The TAPPING IS the "T."

T on the tabs means tap, which means play the note with a finger on your picking hand.

Ah, thanks smile.gif

I have a problem. I just cant seem to understand E minor, and B minor, and all that stuff... I think this is something i should know, as it is mentioned closely in every video... Someone please explain me ?

Posted by: Pi38 Apr 17 2008, 04:54 PM

What do you mean? That you don't know how to play them, or something else?

Posted by: Young Guitarist Apr 17 2008, 04:55 PM

Well basicly, i dont know what to play, because i dont know what an E minor is, i dont know if i can play one, cus i dont know what it is. I hope you understand.. :S

Posted by: Pi38 Apr 17 2008, 04:57 PM

Yeah, I think I do. Do you know how to play E major? (Regular E)

Posted by: Young Guitarist Apr 17 2008, 04:59 PM

You see, thats the problem, What is an E Major? what is the difference between Major and minor? get my point? smile.gif

Posted by: at lights end Apr 17 2008, 05:03 PM

E major could be a scale, chord, or key.
which video are you looking at?

Posted by: Pi38 Apr 17 2008, 05:04 PM

Yeah. The difference is, for barre chords, that a major is exactly the same as a minor, except for one thing: On the G string, the note goes down one fret. So if you're playing F major, you have your index finger as the bar, your pinky and ring finger on the A and D string at the third fret, and your ring finger is on the G string at the 2nd fret. If it was F minor, it would be the same, except that your ring finger wouldn't be doing anything. Your index finger working as a bar you be fretting it at the first fret along the B and high and low E. That was really complicated, but I hope you understood.

Yeah, I agree you should start out with the basics first..
When you got that down you can move to harder things smile.gif

It's important to have a good base and makes it easier to learn other stuff in the future!
But it's also important to have fun!!!

Good luck smile.gif
