I've been practicing this lesson on and off for months. https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/greg_howe_techniques/ I have it all memorized and practice through it almost daily. It makes a great warm up exercise too. I don't have to much problem with the speed of it. The main problem I have is some of the picking strokes are unorthodox for my style. So, when I attempt to record I always have some noticeable unwanted string noises and sloppiness at full speed. Well, its a work in progress. -------------------- |

I'm working on the Pentatonic Patterns 5 positions in Gab's Army
and back working with Todd on my Alt picking. Even on busy days I'm trying to get into the habit of Alt Picking drills in any downtime (like when I'm waiting for the wife to get ready before going out etc) so I can keep progressing. -------------------- My SoundCloud

I'm currently working on a couple lessons that are just beyond my speed range and I'm also doing pure AP exercises with the metronome. Progress is slow but I have noticed an increase in my picking speed. There are licks I can play now that I couldn't when I started the lessons a while back. One of my favorites, I'd love to hear your rendition. I started learning this a while ago but never finished and ended up moving on to something else. You are a very good player man! Indeed from a point on you need to work more to see progress, but it will be there! I've been practicing this lesson on and off for months. https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/greg_howe_techniques/ I have it all memorized and practice through it almost daily. So, when I attempt to record I always have some noticeable unwanted string noises and sloppiness at full speed. Well, its a work in progress. Indeed it is! I think that the tone is what sets things apart with this one It is clean enough so that in combination with the positions it will show any imperfection. I think patience and focused practice at a slower pace will get you there for certain! thanks dude, I'll fire up a couple of things Ive been working on, I could do with an idea or two Id like to play both comfortably numb solos, the first one is so good to play I can spend ages with it on a loop. Its really easy to learn the notes but like you mentioned not easy at all to get sounding as good as gilmour. he plays it so smooth and awesome I'll need to check in with you on my thread as well and show you some of the stuff Ive been playing.... and make sure im not straying from the path Indeed man - you know already by now how simple things are actually more difficult to play Please do check in when you feel like doing so! I need to practice more, I've really just been concentrating on my songs and running through them 2 -3 times each morning and the solos more. This morning I ran across a video for learning 6 of Vivian Campbell's leads from when he was with Dio and I would really love to do that. But I need to start back on the lessons here, it's easy for my mind to get sidetracked and pursue other things as opposed to the rudimentary skills I really need. Good question, it sort of knocked me back to reality. Glad to have been of service, Mr. Spock! Post some vids while you are at it, aye? And how is that tapping part faring? I'm working on the Pentatonic Patterns 5 positions in Gab's Army and back working with Todd on my Alt picking. Even on busy days I'm trying to get into the habit of Alt Picking drills in any downtime (like when I'm waiting for the wife to get ready before going out etc) so I can keep progressing. If it is focused practice, it's very good. Just make sure that those short bursts of practice are not done under stress in such a way that your mind is not there with you when you practice, k? |

Mostly working on triads today, been trying to make my use of triads in improvisation a little freer, rather than relying on familiar triadic shapes!
