* Oh and did you know that to become a killer guitarist you just need to focus on one thing? Everything
else is secondary. Pm me and I will explain.

biggrin.gif Your nickname inspired the thread's name and I wanted to ask you if you are a fan of the 'Curse of Monkey Island' series tongue.gif

Welcome to your personal thread man! In order to start out, as we have already discussed - your acoustic will be a good companion until you fix the electric and what better way to start then Bear Rose's beginner series?

How about this one: https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Beginn..._1_Open_Chords/

Please tell me if this feels too easy or too difficult, ok? It would be great if you had a recording of yourself, as in this way, I could figure out your level much easier wink.gif

All the best,

Cosmin

Awesome name and of course, yes: I'm really into Monkey Island smile.gif Have you played it, too?

Definitely a little bit easy, heh. I know you're only trying to get a feel of my level. I can play chords, power chords, I can mute and solo a little bit. For you to get an idea, I'll tell you some of the songs I can play:
  • The Hell Song - Sum 41 (including solo)
  • Nothing Else Matters - Metallica (including solo)
  • Rocket Queen solo (not perfectly every time, but I can play it)
  • The Kids Aren't Alright (including solo)

Regarding music theory, I'm pretty much illiterate. I can read a tab, I know major, minor, 5 and 7 chords, octaves or 8ths, and some other chords I play but don't know their names (some of the name chords I might not translate perfectly, my mother tongue is Spanish). I can read a sheet of basic music (in formal notation) but it can take hours and sometimes I can't figure out the tempo if I've never heard the tune.

Do you think it's OK for me to go ahead and give Metal Metrics 1 a try? I know it's probably not the best thing to play on an acoustic guitar but at least there's not much bending to it so I can probably play it. If you'd rather I started on something else just say so and I'll start right away.

Thanks, Cosmin!

Hey mate! That one is killer for being played on the acoustic biggrin.gif Why not try this one better?

https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Acoustic-Celtic-Rhythm/

It involves steady rhythm playing so, I'd like to see you have a go at it smile.gif Don't worry too much about the quality - as long as i can understand the guitar, it's great wink.gif

We'll pick things up after hearing this biggrin.gif

Hey, Cosmin! I finally fixed my electric guitar and started to work on Metal Metrics 1. I think I'm pretty close to playing it right (I'm not sure I can do it at full speed for now but if I slow it down I can make it sound pretty good). What's giving me the most trouble is the short licks, specially the first one (at the end of video #2).

Do you have any pointers to get to play that one clean? I'm having troubles with that alternate picking / palm muting combo, my pick grab feels weak and sometimes I miss the notes if I'm playing too fast. Do you understand what I mean?

Let me know if you have any ideas to improve my picking technique,
Thanks!

Santiago

Hey Santiago!

That part has what we call microbends smile.gif They are tiny bends which you need to give some time to, as they are a bit trickier to master! Anyway, I could sure help out much more after seeing/ hearing a recording!

Looking forward to it!

Cosmin

Thanks for the feedback, Cosmin. I think we may be talking about different parts since I don't see any bending neither on the video nor on the tabs (I may be missing something). Just to be sure we're talking about the same thing, this is the lick I'm referring to:

Any pointers/exercises to master that kind of picking? I'll try to record myself as soon as I can get everything hooked up. I'm missing a couple of cable adapters.

Thanks!

Ooooh! Riiight, now I got it smile.gif Mate, it's only a matter of understanding that those are 8 16th notes that must be practiced slowly against a metronome till you get the pulse and you can increase the speed, while striving to play as clean, palm muted and percussive as possible smile.gif

Nothing more! Trust me smile.gif

Looking forward to the recording!
