My name is Andy Hemmi and im from Japan!
and new to GMC, ive been playing guitar for 6 months but not really good.
first thing, this site is amazing.

oh yeah, i have some problems already, whenever i try sweeping or picking fast, my string always rings very faintly when i move to another string. is this because when i take my finger off it touches a bit and makes it ring? how do i fix this?

thanks everyone

Welcome smile.gif
The problem with the ringing is your not gettin the string mutted all the way,but i dont see why your already trying to sweep at 6 months blink.gif It's kind of like Pavel (one of the instructor's) said to me about sweeping.''As a baby you have to learn to walk before you can talk"" same goes with sweping. You should have alot of other techniques you must master before even attempting this.I know it's hard because it's such an awesome skill but really if you go for it now you will get some really bad habit's.First you should get picking, harmonics, tapping, hammer on and pull off's down along with speed and accuracy up first and this takes time.Just to give you an ideai have been playing for 11 years and i really am at a low beginner lever of sweeping and still feel i need to improve in other techniques before i try to learn sweep. If you have any questions feel free to ask and hope you like it here.

Welcome rhcpandy!
I agree with shredmandan: you should get alternate picking, legato and some rhythm stuffs before try sweeping.

rhcpandy,

Whew 6 months and already thinking about shredding! Don' t forget to check out the theory section of this site. It is insightful. Andy may think it is a lonely site but I was reviewing Minor Scales last night on it. Start with Kris's lessons e.g. How to practice, Pentatonic Scales 1, 2, and 3, etc... Listed to what he says also. Practice, patience, and persistence. Use the site. It is a unique place. We have stepped in the perverbial cow pie (means good luck) by discovering this site.

Hey man! smile.gif Welcome!

Your solution is to use your left and right hands to mute the strings in order for them not to ring at all.
