Gab, here is solo attempt over major chords and penatonic scale and major 7th, learning the shapes and moving around a bit. kind of getting a feel for it.. http://youtu.be/AMIt1YMyUBU thanks, soap Hi soap, it sounding nice. Keep on working in this way and slowly try to make your lines more and more musical. When you work on this stuff, the most important thing is to be totally focusing on visualizing the shapes, chord tones and everything that's happening in your fret board, so be sure to be concentrated. Keep on the good job. -------------------- My lessons

hi Gab,
hope all is well... been working on that solo major exercise and my legato http://youtu.be/hXAg-8PG0tw I think my pulloffs are getting better, but i don't see much difference in this attempt verses my last one i gave you. also been working on ben's legato exercise 1, it's hard to get notes to sound even and my pinky has a hard time picking off the string, especially on the high strings. also working on the metal rhythm exercises, i think i need some work on my alternate picking in order to increase my speed on some of the riffs. i will post some of them, to show where i am at.. thanks, soap |

Hi Soap! Great to see you working hard!
This lesson is evolving very good. I notice that the notes of your legato are sounding ok and the next step is now to give a last adjustment to timing. The AP parts are tighter but the legato licks are not going fluently with the groove, you tend to go a bit before the beat and it seems that the pull offs are the main problem. I recommend you to isolate the legato licks and play each one as a loop over the backing. It will sound good and will be a great practice. Then you can combine everything again. About riffing, what exercises are you practicing? -------------------- My lessons

hi Gab,
it's been a while, been working on all the lessons you gave me and also working on writng tunes a bit. About riffing, what exercises are you practicing? the riffing is on your lesson 'finnish power metal', it's a short alternate picking between strings riff, it's my ' speed brake' it holds me back cause i can't pick it clean. it's getting better though. i'm up to 110bpm but it's not clean or on time yet. i need more work on my vibrato as you will see in 'guitar loves piano' tone is kind of harsh still. vibrato doesn't come out with this amp setting on pod. have to experiment more to get better sustain and tone. but can't blame my settings too much i still need alot of work...i think i need more wrist movement? http://youtu.be/pk-4eDZJxG8 thanks, soap |

Hi mate! Great to hear from you again. Thanks for the link. Your lesson is enjoyable, even having some issues that I'll detail in a moment, your take is nice to hear, it sounds tasty and with a nice energy. However there are 4 things that you have to focus if you want to master this one and take your playing to a new level. The topics are:
Vibrato: Your vibrato is weak yet. You asked if you need to do more wrist movement, and the answer is yes! You have to make it sound more regular and consistent. Sometimes it seems to be a false vibrato, you try to do it but it doesn't happen. How to fix it? Check again the Vibrato Odyssey lesson that I suggested and work on it every day. Learn the basics and play along with the main video to be sure that you are doing the "vibration" right. If you work on that lesson at least 20 minutes every day, you will slowly start to feel improvements on Guitar loves piano lesson too. Bending: Please incorporate 15 minutes of practicing the following exercise in order to make your bending more precise and to feel more comfortable with the technique. http://youtu.be/Hh_pYY6UYIw Timing: There are many timing issues on this one. Sometimes you play out of tempo, while other times you just play a different rhythm compared with the original lesson. Play along with the main video to solve this problem. Focus on going tight with Piotr's playing. Tone: Are you said, your tone needs some more experimentation. It lacks some sustain. Try adding a tube screamer emulation before the amp model selected and you will notice a big difference. Please have in mind this details on the next days of practice and keep me updated about the progress. -------------------- My lessons

Hi friend! Thanks for the new videos!
Rhythm Metal: It's evolving good but there are some important things to have in mind while practicing. Your palm muting is a bit weak yet and that makes different parts sound noisier and not completely tight (starting at 00:21). Then, another problem that appears is an harmonic sound that starts around 00:31, and the reason seems to be that you are not pressing enough the root note of the power chords there. Other than that, you'll also have to adjust a bit timing and check how Kai manages dynamics on the different riffs. These are many things to cover but work slowly on each one at a time, there is no hurry. Atreyu: You are also doing a good job with this one! Let me mark some details for the next days of practice. The double string melody could sound clearer on this one, try to make both string sound strong. And also work on the 16th notes that are played for example at 00:43 which are not defined. Besides these two details, the overall is really good, good timing and tone, well done! Snow Patrol: Nice work with the first two introductions for this one. Just be careful with timing for the arpeggios starting at 00:43. I noted that you added a solo improvisation on the second half of this one. I like the idea, it is a great training for your improvisation and composition. Please keep doing it, trying to make the phrases more defined, and adjusting your bending technique which sometimes is a bit out of pitch. Ok mate, I hope that this feedback helps to write down new goals for this week. Let me know what you think! -------------------- My lessons

Ok, here are some important tips to have in mind:
- Work on each part as a different exercise, over a backing, drum loop or metronome. - Work at a tempo that you can play everything clear and defined. - Focus on your hands movements, notice if you are doing the movements small, and if not, try to find out what things you can do to economize movements. - Once you can play everything completely tight and with small movements, increase the tempo a bit and continue practicing. - Practicing on alternate picking parts and then on legato parts can be a good idea. Please share a video after 3 days of practice with this method to let me check your technique and progress. -------------------- My lessons
