Sunset On A Life That Doesn't Matter

There’s a blank page with ink smearing the surface
Words that we’re left unfinished and unwritten
The last letter runs off the page as if someone left in a hurry
Bloodstains from a wrist dot the pages like a signature
There’s a phone off the hook, And a dial tone ringing out
Maybe he tried to call for help, Maybe he tried just a little...
This tight little apartment reeks of disappointment
And the air with a stench of despair
I wished there was someone there who cared just a little bit
I wish it was me
I wished there was someone there to at least hold is hand
I wish it was me
Is this a sunset, On a life that doesn’t matter?
As I walk through the broken furniture, shattered lamps and torn clothes
I’ve already seen his body, I’ve already started to cry
Its probably my fault, ‘Cause I sad it doesn’t bother me
Its not my life, Why should put his problems above mine?
But that all changed when I heard the message he left
If only I had answered it, If only I was more considerate
If I had just had a single honest heartbeat
Then maybe he wouldn’t be so helpless and alone
I wished there was someone there who cared just a little bit
I wish it was me
I wished there was someone there to at least hold is hand
I wish it was me
Is this a sunset, On a life that doesn’t matter?
As I walked into the room, My body shook and shivered
My heart pumped fear, And my mind began to race
When I saw him laying staring up at me, Reaching with a hand
I clutched it and told him everything was gonna be alright
30 minutes later the ambulance arrived
And in that time he took only a single breath to speak
And slowly, with each word I shed another tear
As he said, “I’m glad that you came, I’m glad someone cared”
No matter the adversary
No matter what we’re faced with
Even when we feel we have nothing
When we have nothing to live for
There is someone who cares
There is someone who wants to be there
This is not the sunset of a life that doesn’t matter
This is the dawn above one that does
