Well, basically on most acoustics its near impossible to play higher than on 12th fret, beacause of the body construction. There are some guitars with cutaways (I believe its called a "folk cutaway") which resolves this issue a bit.
 Basically playing metal or neoclassical (that means the style of malmsteen etc.) on acoustic is a bad idea, since they are constructed for playing with a pick and for the thin strings, that electric guitar has - why dont you use your Ephiphone? SHe should be much more suitable
