Just been reading the latest SOS (Sound on Sound) magazine which caught my eye that features an article running over two months (Nov/Dec 2009) on the topic of extreme metal production. Pretty cool.

Even if you don't buy the mag there is a link to video interviews with producer/engineers Andy Sneap (Killswitch Engage, Machine Head) and Russ Russell (Napalm Death, Dimmu Borgir) that is public on their website: http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/nov09/arti...metalvideos.htm

You guys may find it useful or maybe not?

It is useful but most of the interview is like this:

interviewer: "Do you xyz?"
the guy who chills in the arm chair: "yeah, uhm somtimes, depends..."
interviewser: "Sure, Sure, Yeah"

Sure. The article is way better. I didn't get a lot out of the interviews to be honest but since I noticed they were available as a public link ... I thought to post here. Doesn't cost anything.

Andy Sneap in particular wasn't particularly forthcoming in his interview ... The most common reply? It depends. Yeah. Thanks man for that in-depth reply! tongue.gif

Although, to be fair there ain't a lot that can be covered in a ten minute max upload on Youtube. Hence, why I tend to avoid it for anything worthwhile. Russ Russell did manage to touch on a few ideas of his own that weren't covered in the article so was worth a viewing ...

Wait a few months though and the article will be open to non-subscribers on the SOS website or just read at your local newsstand. No need to even buy it then! smile.gif

That's enough re-editing.

I lie. I think the problem with the interviewer was that he was pushing his own agenda rather than getting the word from these very successful producers. The questions were not open enough to get any real feedback. The media nowadays doesn't require much in the way of listening skills ... Hence, why I avoid that too ... biggrin.gif
