I hate to write things like this but unfortunetely I had bad expirience with two LTD's - one bass and one EC (not the 1000). Tone was great. Playability also, finish - nothing to add. Hardware - good for the price but....there were wood problems. The neck was very soft and flexible. It became twisted and we did the correections twice. It wasn't a matter of truss rod adjustment - wood was to fragile or just to wet while building the guitar. We had to sold it.

I hate writting bad things about any companies so I always think twice before wrtitting. Unfortunetely this really happened (also with the mentioned bass which was owned by a different person) and it destroyed my trust to the instruments with this logo.

But to not become a 100% dick and web troll...I have to add that I also have friends who had LTD's from those series and they were ok.

My private suggestion would be to buy some Schecter - the reason....You already own na LP kind of guitar at sort of "super strat" with arch top and the tone between the both classic You have...would surely fill the tonal space between both mentioned. I owend a few Schecters and it's one of my favourite brands. I used top have Demon as a main guitar for some time and after tiny luthiers corrections it was studio quality guitar which never failed on live gigs too. I miss her so much....but had to go a bit in the "strat tone" and this one was the only one I could selll sad.gif I was also a bit clever and sold it to a friend who lives close so....I can always get it back smile.gif

If your budget allows it and if you want a guitar that can handle more than metal, you guessed it, go for the PRS tongue.gif

Nothing wrong with Schechter - but I couldn't possibly say anything about it, as I haven't had the opportunity to play them enough in order to have a real opinion smile.gif

I have a LTD ec 1000 for my metal needs. I've had it for about 7 years now and it's served me well with no problems at all.
I string mine with 54-12 and keep it tuned a whole step down and it's perfect for the job.
It's light for a les paul copy with a slim neck which is very easy to play, also locking tuners a bound body and fingerboard and of course the EMG's so the spec is pretty good.
There's a lot of options in the price range for this kind of instrument though so I'd probably advise you to try as many as you can first but I'd definately give this a thumbs up for the price if you can't try them.

I don't have one but Googling that guitar instantly returns loads of 'apparent' good reviews...

I haven't tried one of these but I have seen Andy James using it in many of his videos and it sounds killer. I'm also thinking on getting a guitar for metal, the options listed here are also the ones that I have in mind. I want 24 frets, thin neck and possibly active pick ups.

Sadly I had a similar issue with an LTD 8 String. The neck simply could not take the stress and would twist a bit depending on drop tuning. Maybe I was just unlucky and got a bad one. Some people LOVE LTD and have ZERO PROBLEMS.

Thin necks are dangerous in that regard, they have to be properly built/good wood selection etc. Tricky biz wink.gif The schecter necks are very stable but a tad thick for my taste. Again some people LOVE SHECTERS.

The PRS will probably have a bit better resale value since the Shecters are so numerous. But it really boils down to your hands and ears. Which guitar would you be most happy playing? Buy that one smile.gif Play them and take a day to think about it. The one that you "miss", thats that one smile.gif

well makes alot of scence, all i really know is that ltd's are korean made guitars, im not saying foriegn made is bad, but companys make there instruments over seas to save money so natrually it makes sence that they may not be able to hold up.
the ltd i played the other day was new at samash music shop. i liked it but it was also strung with 10s and in standard tuning. it was mentiond a couple time about the neck, and thinking about it throwing 13's on adding even more pressure to the neck i think ill look elsewhere, i would love a prs but i the ones i looked at are up there in price. im gonna keep a eye on classifieds, thanks fellas

the reason they tend to cost less is not because the materials or craftsmanship is subpar, it's because many companies in those countries do not pay their workers nearly as much. For example, mexican strats are just as good as american strats (for the most part) and the only real difference is that the factories in Mexico simply operate under different standards. However, the machines and technology that carves the guitar, etc is the same, and the workers are no less skilled in my opinion. Personally, I have played mexican strats that sounded and felt better than american deluxe. In fact, I've played SQUIRE strats that outperformed the american strats O_O

I think a lot of the "american made is always better" idea is B.S. Not saying that you'll never find crappily made guitars in Korea, Mexico, Japan, etc, but the same goes for american made ones. Lower end american made guitars are going to be just as crappy. If you buy a $1000 guitar made in korea, it's most likely going to play and feel just as good as an american made one.

i agree i dont think forgien made are crappy either. i had a mexican strat and epiphone and loved them as much as my us fender and gibson and they played as well, but i do think that some companys may cut corners on there guitars im not saying ltd or pointing at any other company in particular. trying to get opinions so i dont end up buying something im going to want to sell smile.gif anytime i buy a instrument i always make sure it plays good sounds good and feels good, and is going to last a lifetime from the craftsmanship and taking care of it smile.gif

I don't have that particular guitar, but I do have the LTD H-1001. It is an excellent guitar. The build quality is great, and the tone is pretty sweet as well. I did change out the EMG 85 in the neck for an EMG 60, but that's just a matter of personal preference.

I do have two complaints about it though. The locking tuners aren't made from very durable metal. They still work after four years, but eventually they will need to be replaced. Also, for some reason, frets 21-24 weren't polished. Weird.

Keep in mind the 1000 series LTD's are made in a different factory with different workers than the lower series. They're manufactured in a long established Korean factory. This is the same factory that makes the higher end Schecter guitars. Of course, this is because both brands are owned by the same company. But I'm sure you already knew that wink.gif

I have that one, but now I would choose the different guitar. No I don't mean that LTD is bad. It sounds good and the neck is great. But something is wrong about it. It's strange but I don't feel that discomfort playing my friends Edwards guitar.LTDs are great quality guitars but it seems to me that they all sound the same.

I really enjoyed mine for a long time. I'm selling it because the specs don't suit me anymore (these days I play more shredder-guitars and less traditional style guitars) but I played mine into the ground. It was an excellent axe all-around.
