GMC Forum _ Gabriel Leopardi _ Dieter's Thread

Posted by: Gabriel Leopardi Jun 7 2012, 10:48 PM

Hi Dieter!! Welcome to your http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/guitar_forum/index.php?showtopic=43110&st=20 thread!!

Could you please tell me a bit about you, your musical tastes, influences, strengths and weaknesses? I would need some videos of you playing rhythm and solo guitar, so please post your best material here. If you have some music or ideas of your own, also post them here. Also let me know how you think that I can help you and what are your expectations for our job. You can check the other Army's thread to discover the different modalities of this project.

The principles of our Army are:

+ Improve your technique
+ Make music and solos
+ Have fun
+ Destroy the enemy (hahaha not realy just kidding... )

Hello Gabriel!
Nice to let me in your army biggrin.gif

Ok you ask and here the answers :

I grow up with Hendrix -Santana -Pink Floyd- Oldfield -Aldi Meola-Colosseum-great german bands-and a lot more.

Metallica i got into through my daughter - Bling Guardian i like ,Faun and more ......this natural spirit and feeling from
that celtic kind of music . Hard music compared with soft parts and a universal lyric . Important in this kind of music that i still can hear the music elements and instruments . For example Slipknot i don't like .

I am serious with studying my guitar / playing -
but i never played with someone or with backing tracks before i came to GMC.
You know my Van halen lesson - rhythm is a problem at first ! (this lesson i am working on too, but will take now more time until the next record , Ben mad me a great video for help )
I like to play just around and i have fun and always a idea . ( will make some sample )
Problem using chords and than putting together with a solo line

Ok i will today make some clips from solo and rhythm guitar in between my dutys.

and one idea of my own melody and rhythm mixed somehow laugh.gif

My idea is of course :

The principles of our Army are:

+ Improve your technique
+ Make music and solos
+ Have fun
+ Destroy the enemy (hahaha not realy just kidding... )

All the daily exercises and studys in a way that leeds to a way of german metal a kind of time table.

( before i forget right know just in standard tuning - dropped stuff sounds great but its to early for me i think )

Thank you Dieter

OK Gabriel here the first sound clip:

And here a record i just made some weeks a go - just like that in a mood huh.gif

Posted by: Dieterle Jun 8 2012, 10:07 AM

Hi Gabriel,

her a nother vid i just made - inspired from Ben`s thread i just did see.

Thats a good example for playing around - but the next thing would be some chords to get on with it.

Like this i like to play around - problems come when i try to work it out - chords to put in and use interesting sounding is a big problem too , besides all the other ones you know about my playing wink.gif .

Hi mate! Thanks for all this info!I have been following your REC takes so I can notice which are the main things to work on. In this first week I would like to assign you these lessons to work on.

This one for your right hand and for timing work:
http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Picking-Hand-Basics/

and this one for your left hand and also timing work.
http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Bens-Land-Of-Legato/

This two are tricky so mayb it will take more than one week to master, so please start working on these ones and keep me updated in order to add some other complementary jobs like specific exercises, riffing and learning some theory, scales and chords. In the short term I would like to see you joining collaborations here at the site.

Hi mate! Thanks for your take! I'm glad to know that you are enjoying my German Power Metal lessons. You have to practice this one using the slower backings because your timing isn't correct on this take. Once you feel comfortable with the slower ones, go for this normal tempo backing. wink.gif

I wish you have a nice journey to France! Enjoy it!

Hello Gabriel !

Here my morning exercise from today - Helloween lesson in parts and 100 bpm drum machine.

I try it in original speed too, several times a day - wow 150 bpm is very fast ! huh.gif

Have a good day !

Hi mate! It's cool to see you working hard! You are not going with the loop because it's still a bit fast for you. Try to set it at a slower tempo to feel more comfortable while you practice and to be able to play each lick tight.

Have a good day too! wink.gif

Posted by: Dieterle Sep 11 2012, 06:13 PM

OK Gabriel,

i use the next few days Guitar Pro and speed 80 - 100 bpm ,

50 bpm i did try but its to slow and i feel not comfortable with it 80 is OK and then i think 100 should become comfortable

to record end of the week - we will see and hear. rolleyes.gif

Thank you for your help !

Have a good time and lots of inspiration !

That sounds good for me. It's true that sometimes if you practice with a VERY slow backing you can't feel comfortable with the idea because it's so slow than it looses sense.

Have a good time and lots of inspiration you too! smile.gif

Hello Gabriel ,

i took a week longer for my next vid to record - to much work with my job cool.gif .

Ok first problem i had with my i movie to record because of a leopard update on my mac it works different then before and i didnt had time to find out yet all the functions - so the vid is not exactly synchrony with my garageband sound clip.

I try to play in original speed 150 but i exercise 100 and 120 bpm.

One big problem right now are the changes and timing on 0.34 and 0.41 i didn't hear out yet the exactly timing as you can see and hear on gp file it sounds right but with the original backing couldnt yet figure out the exact timing !

Sure there are lots more mistakes i can heare myself but this points 0.34 and 0.41 are for me right now important .

Anyway i hope you are well and i wish you a nice weekend ! biggrin.gif

Dieter

Posted by: Gabriel Leopardi Sep 25 2012, 03:59 PM

Hi dieter! yes, there are some very important timing issues in the overall lesson. I think that it's mostly a technique limitation.... so my suggestion is to practice at slower tempos first... and if you find it impossible with the backings maybe you can use the guitar pro files to be able to follow what the midi guitar does...

Hello Gabriel here my first take !

http://soundcloud.com/dieterleguitar/gabriel-collab

Posted by: Gabriel Leopardi Oct 29 2012, 06:46 PM

Hi mate, ok, we have to work on this! Your solo doesn't fit very well with the chords that sound in the backing track and the way to fix this is to start learning triads and arpeggios and follow with them the chords that sound. The secret at this point is to play less notes but the ones that are more effective.

My question is: Do you know major and minor triads?

Posted by: Dieterle Nov 1 2012, 08:04 AM

Hello gabriel!
I was looking on net for triads and actually i didn't
think before about it.
So might be important to make a triads course here to get more ground knowledge for my playing around stuff.

Is this OK for you ?

Dieter

yes! What course are you talking about?

Posted by: Dieterle Nov 3 2012, 08:01 AM

Hello Gabriel ,

i never been thinking about chords a lot actually i play around and try to find melodies ,
i always play alone and i would like to find a way to play a melody and beside chords to get some background feeling or main
and underline atmosphere.

Chords - atmosphere Solo/melodie what i wanna say

so i should learn putting a scale / pentatonic with chords together and all over the fretboard.

rolleyes.gif

Dieter

Posted by: Gabriel Leopardi Nov 4 2012, 02:43 AM

Ok! So, let's start working on this... the first two things that you must study are knowing how to play a minor chord in 5 positions and a then the arpeggios around this positions. Let's start with this two GP files in A minor.

 01._A_minor_chord.gp5 ( 2.14K ) : 84

 02._A_minor_arpeggios.gp5 ( 1.94K ) : 106

Thank you Gabriel for this homework !

I just recognize that i mostly don't play real chords and it is not easy to get my fingers on the right place,

maybe the are a bit to short !? rolleyes.gif

will take some time to play them fluidly i exercise them a few minutes a day with a break in between ,
because my hand hurts when do it longer.

Is there any special exercise for finger gymnastic on freeboard to get them more in shape - kind of warm up?

Well, I know that there are exercises for that but I have never used them. The thing that always worked for me is keeping my left hand fingers playing the shape that is giving problem, just keeping the position for some time every day.

Posted by: Dieterle Nov 10 2012, 09:16 AM

Hello Gabriel !

--- just keeping the position for some time every day.---

Your advice works well !

It is getting easier to access the chords and they and the agreppios i got in mind now tongue.gif

I can exercise them now more often without pain rolleyes.gif .

Whats next you wanna me to do ?

Have a Nice Weekend !

Dieter
.

Posted by: Gabriel Leopardi Nov 11 2012, 08:14 PM

Great! Now let's combine minor chords and arpeggios in the 5 different positions. Use the following progression to practice it.

Am - Dm - Em - Dm

First, play the chords, changing from one chord to the nex that is closer to it, and then moving to a new position. After this, do the same but with arpeggios, playing them in order and finally trying to create melodies.

Is it clear?

Posted by: Dieterle Nov 11 2012, 09:17 PM

Thank you Gabriel !

I first have to find out the minor chords and the scales in 5 positions !

But i think i get it

The minor chord formula:

1 – b3 – 5

So the root is 1 for example Dm D - F - A

Em E - G - B

and then 5 positions on fretboard

minor scales are OK and when i am unsure i can check the scale generator.

Dieter

Dieter

Sorry Gabriel !

Arpeggios not scales wink.gif

but its OK too !

Dieter

Posted by: Gabriel Leopardi Nov 12 2012, 02:51 PM

yes mate, that's correct. You already have all the minor chord and arpeggios shapes in the two guitar pro files that I posted here. Could you check it? Those are transportable positions...

Posted by: Dieterle Nov 12 2012, 03:08 PM

Hello Gabriel thank you for answering fast !

On GP file is only Am chord and arpeggios in 5 positions

but not Dm and Em .

Dieter

Dieter

ok, there is a trick about this! You can transpose those shapes... the lower note is the root of the chord, so you can move them.

Let me show you an example.

This is Am (the one that appears in the GP file)
http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/scalegenerator

If you move it one fret you have A#m:
http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/scalegenerator

If you start it from the 7th fret, you have E minor:
http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/scalegenerator

Let's start with another shape:

Am:
http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/scalegenerator

Dm:
http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/scalegenerator

The same happens with every shape, does this make sense?

Hello Gabriel !

Its time for me -- i think so - to go again into some Guitar Lesson and after looking and listening to a few GMC Lessons here ,

Running Wild Lesson from you sounds really GOOD to me !

It is a very hard lesson for me - i know that (Level 4) - but there are some real interesting elements in it and i would like to use

this technics and that kind of sound feeling for my own next record on my Seeds falling down on Gaja project

So the 3th part should become more hard and aggressive kind of wake up atmosphere

the chords on your lesson are not difficult and there are many ways to find some scale ideas.

Too on part two there you use some cool palm mute - like it but this is real difficult ....

I know my problem rhythm timing working slower ..........

I would work on the first part and beside that on the second part of your lesson right now and will record end of the week my first video .

Would it be OK for ya to check them and tell me what ya think !?

Dieter

Posted by: Gabriel Leopardi May 11 2013, 05:58 PM

Hi mate! Nice to hear from you at Gab's Army thread! smile.gif
Your ideas sound really good and I will be here ready to give you feedback every time you have a video to share. Start slowly with that lesson and feel free to share only sections at slower tempo or whatever you want.

Your composition sounds very tasty, I like the atmosphere and melodies on it. I think that you should keep on working on it. Good job!

The same goes for the second idea that started there (Rising of the root). You just have to define a bit more the ideas to play them more confident and more precise.

I exercise Todd`s Shredding Lessons daily ( 30 - 45 minutes in chapters and keep on going that ) so i got some more timing feeling and finger movement becomes better .... step by step .

Hi Dieter! Nice to hear from you here! smile.gif

You can off course count with me! As I will be on vacation for 20 days starting on December 14th. So a good idea would be to design a plan for those days. You can use the exercises from the intensive technique course, some gmc lessons and also my improvisation course.

What about a plan like this one?

Guitar Routine - 3 Weeks - 90 minutes each day.

Technique Work (40 minutes)

- Alternate Picking
- Legato
- Bending & Vibrato

Improvisation Work (30 minutes)

- Follow my improvisation course: http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/guitar_forum/index.php?showtopic=42832&view=findpost&p=699881

GMC musical lesson (20 minutes)

- Choose a musical lesson for this week. Learn it, and work on variations over the backing track.
