Critique My Playing/recording/video Skills, I'm playing Ivan's Blues Solo in D Options

After a year of playing and making good progress, I decided that maybe what my playing needs to get to the next level is more recording and listening to myself. I've decided that if I'm going to bother to learn a lesson, I'm also going to commit myself to being able to play the whole lesson and record audio and video of it.

For now, the audio and video are recorded in separate takes and re-synced later. My laptop web cam won't record audio from anything other than the computer's onboard mic.

Anyway...please feel free to critique my playing and/or recording skills and/or tone and/or video skills. I know I've got a long way to go in all areas and I'd really like some input, both positive and negative.

Sounds really nice and the video/audio quality is ok, too. One hint I can give you: use monoton backing (for example your wall or a blanket.

Well the performance itself is quite good. Your tone is nice and smooth, Maybe some reverb or a small echo or delay would add some spice, and the drum track is well done. The rhythm guitar seems a bit "loose" to me, Like its just following the song, But almost straining to do so. What I like to do for such things is record myself playign it twice and pan each take on the left and right sides respectively. Gives it a beefier, stronger sound. The lead guitar, once again, is awesome though, you got very precise playing and good phrasing.

As for the video, If you get yourself a nicer camera, It would look great and sound great too if you could get a live performance on there. Im new to doing video myself, So i can't offer to much advice here.

One last thing, Is that the mixing is good as well. Id make the rhythm track have a bit more presence over the drums though (just a tiny bit)

The only thing I could add is that your rhythm guitar sounds bald to me. Would be nice a warmer sound with some effects could be. But it could function if you take your time to equalize that track.

As I said on the PM, you nailed to solo quite nicely mate. You guitar should be more louder, but that's about it. Nice video as well, a bit bad framerate but good lightning. Well done mate!

Yes, I thought this was a great take... My only suggestion is to (If you haven't already) try "raking" the strings before a bended note. If you have a note on the "B string", then mute a few of the strings before it you would get a more aggressive bluesy sound. This can involve muting with your right and/or left hand.

Your tone is nice, but I think if you threw in a few "dead notes" before your chosen bends, then your tone would really "pop".
