That list is a lot better than the RS one, altough Jimi Hendrix is still on top...

I think MAB deserves to be on the list and here's why smile.gif I think he is an insanly great guitar player,i believe he was the first person to put 2 guitars together and shred on them with both hands at the same time. That alone i feel should put him up there. smile.gif Just how i feel and i should have put him on my list but i was trying to stay out of the whole ''your just listing metal player's and shredder's thing tongue.gif ''
Man im sorry but its just my opinion .Pete Townshend didnt do anything special other than invent that throwing your arm around in circile's while picking thing tongue.gif also getting busted for looking at child porn on the internet.I think that should automaticly bann him from the list laugh.gif

laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif
Thats true. But Pete did more than that, he invented the power chord for one, which is used in tons of music today.

No offense, but I don't think Jimi Hendrix, Slash, Randy Rhoads, David Gilmour, Dimebag etc., should be anywhere close to the top 100.

In my opinion, how much a guitarist influenced others, how much a guitarist expressed "emotion," "passion," "feel," etc, and how much a guitarist contributed to the world of guitar is no matter. Since emotion, passion, and feel cannot be defined and has different meanings among listeners, I think it should not be brought up at all when making a list like this. I think the basis should be how much each guitarist understands the fundamentals of the guitar itself. Having said that, my Top 20 would have to be...

1- Yngwie Malmsteen
2- Jason Becker
3- Marty Friedman
4- Michael Angelo Batio
5- Chris Impellitteri
6- Shawn Lane
7- Paul Gilbert
8- Tony MacAlpine
9- Vinnie Moore
10- Michael Romeo (No one has a better knowledge of theory)
11- John Petrucci
12- Steve Vai
13- Greg Howe
14- Joe Satriani
15- Buckethead
16- Rusty Cooley
17- Fransceso Farerri
18- Bruce Bouillet (Paul Gilbert's sidekick. Extremely underrated)
19- Glen Drover (Also extremely underrated, listen to Burnt Ice, Washington is Next, etc.)
20- Eric Johnson.

I don't agree at all. They all are great guitarists and have done plenty to deserve a spot.

Yea, they are thousands great guitarists but I only put my Top 20. Like I said, the reason I don't think they should be up in the top 20 is because they all seem extremely basic. For example, they don't break out of the pentatonic and blues scales at all, every single solo is the same. David Gilmour plays EXTREMELY slow from what I've seen, so he doesn't really impress me much. I'm not saying speed determines ranking but, it should have a large impact. Very fast, clean, speed takes hours upon hours of practice, and therefore I think it should be considered. If I were to put Jimi Hendrix up there, it would be because of his immense knowledge of chords, not how much "passion" he had, or how much he contributed, and whatnot.

Ok, I get what you're saying now. But I still think they all greatly impacted the guitar in their own ways. David Gilmour doesn't always play slow by the way. Speed is very impressive but if you can play fast and can't come up with a solo that sounds like a bunch of nonsense it is very pointless. You must have melody to your playing too. All of the players you mentioned have writtin impressive music with great melody. That is why I didn't totally agree.

Now I do love shred and insane guitar playing so I do like your list very much. I do accept your selections greatly but everyones decision is their own opinion and who they were greatly influenced by and look at as their greatest guitar heroes is their choice.

Now I could see if people disagreed if someones top 3 consisted of like Curt Cobain, Jack Black, and Johnny Ramone because that would not make sence at all.

I see several of my own personal favorites (SRV, Jimi, EVH, RR, etc) so I won't re-list them again, they are well-covered...but here are a few that didn't seem to make the cut yet (no particular order)...or I missed them in my brief reading...

Jeff Healey (he's BLIND, how does he do it!!!)
Adrian Belew
Roy Buchanan
Jango ( I saw his name mentioned, but he died before practically all of us were even born! How did he do it in those days of no gadgets and such)
Alvin Lee
Steve Morse

And a ton of others we haven't mentioned yet.

I agree with you mostly as far as your list. The only thing i couldnt really agree with was #15 Buckethead,i think everyone of the guitarist you had listed above like Hendrix,Dimebag ect are better than buckethead.Thats not to say i dont think he's a great guitarist but just my opinion on it as well wink.gif
