GMC Forum _ PRACTICE ROOM _ Server Switch

Posted by: Kristofer Dahl Apr 7 2008, 08:10 PM

Hello!

You have probably noticed we closed the forum down for a while today.

We have moved the site to a new server - due the problems with teliasonera and cogent networks which affected many GMCers

Today we are on a much more powerful machine, with more bandwidth and most importantly on a stronger network.

Kristofer

PS If you find a bug we always appreciate to hear about it - thanks! smile.gif

Posted by: peixe Apr 7 2008, 08:15 PM

Nice to hear this Kris!

As an old webdeveloper I know it takes quite a server to run a site this popular biggrin.gif

Posted by: Iluha Apr 7 2008, 08:17 PM

Cool, well one thing I noticed is that videos load much faster for me now! but another thing I noticed is that the loading bar is messed up and would just keep blinking =p

Posted by: peixe Apr 7 2008, 08:18 PM

For me it works just perfectly smile.gif

It loads faster for me as well, but as you said it also blinks as long as its loading

Posted by: Kristofer Dahl Apr 7 2008, 08:25 PM

I just saw that the wiki isn't working - we will fix that tomorrow!

Posted by: Mrblomme Apr 7 2008, 08:28 PM

Good thing smile.gif faster loading but also the blinking. wink.gif

Posted by: peixe Apr 7 2008, 08:30 PM

The blinking has been reported! smile.gif

Posted by: Kristofer Dahl Apr 7 2008, 08:31 PM

@ peixe this should have been removed now - if you restart your browser.

Posted by: peixe Apr 7 2008, 08:36 PM

Good job! It works now smile.gif

Posted by: steve25 Apr 7 2008, 08:41 PM

For some reason GMC seems a lot slower for some reason sad.gif

Posted by: Kristofer Dahl Apr 7 2008, 08:54 PM

my old 101 lessons don't work when accessed through the advanced search and listview - if you encounter this you can remove the last "/" and it will work.

I hope to get this sorted tomorrow.

Ouch another thing, I'm reading this post: http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/guitar_forum/index.php?showtopic=13932&hl=

I cannot listen the song ONLINE, but I can listen it when I dowloaded it wink.gif

it works for me - do you get lots of text? what happens?

Posted by: inertia Apr 7 2008, 09:44 PM

Hi Kris, none of the videos work for me, I can see the picture, but when I press play it shows the pause button for a quick second as if it is going to play and then stops and shows the play button.

Posted by: DeepRoots Apr 7 2008, 09:51 PM

Similar problems to inertia here: video may not load at all, or maybe just a second then it will stop.

I could watch the recent video updates (last two lessons) but i remember they wouldnt load for a while- so i left them, then came back later and they played fine (left it for a while without refreshing or leaving page etc).

Tried browsing lessons and it certainly didnt allow easy viewing sad.gif

Posted by: Kristofer Dahl Apr 7 2008, 09:57 PM

inertia & Deeproots - I cannot quite recreate this problem.... If you press play again will it play?

Either way I will ask Henrik to have a look at this tomorrow!

Posted by: Trond Vold Apr 7 2008, 10:06 PM

Very odd.. no problems on my end, except that the videobar is blinking.
Videos load alot faster though.

Posted by: DeepRoots Apr 7 2008, 10:07 PM

yes- i get about 3 seconds of video after waiting for almost a minute for it to load.

Posted by: Toni Suominen Apr 7 2008, 10:12 PM

No problems for me either, Im loving this server change, everything loads up super quick! biggrin.gif

I feel slightly jealous, you are gifted with super fast video. I am gifted with no video.... mad.gif sad.gif huh.gif

wink.gif tongue.gif

Posted by: Tuubsu Apr 7 2008, 10:17 PM

I noticed that eveything loads quiker too! which is cool, but for me also, none of the videos load.... sad.gif

Posted by: Kristofer Dahl Apr 7 2008, 10:31 PM

inertia and Deeproots and anyone else who is having problems - can you let us know the following (we need you to be specific as searching for these kind of bugs is tricky)

* which lessons (URLs) are giving you problems

* which browser you are using (version and name)

* what operating system you are using

* your location

Posted by: akira222 Apr 7 2008, 10:33 PM

for me, videos play but i have to wait like 5 minutes and then click the play button.

Edit:
-all lessons
-firefox
-windows xp
-USA

Posted by: Tuubsu Apr 7 2008, 10:39 PM

-all lessons(tried like 6 of them) for example http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/rhythm-guitar/funk-fingerpicking-technique/

-Firefox version 2.0.0.13
-Windows xp home edition
-Finland

Posted by: Eat-Sleep-andJam Apr 7 2008, 11:20 PM

The videos are taking forever for me to play today~usually it takes 2 seconds now its taking a half an hour blink.gif

Posted by: inertia Apr 7 2008, 11:49 PM

-all lessons
-firefox 2.0.0.13
-windows xp home edition sp2
-Canada

Edit: I tried Internet Explorer, which I never use, and the videos load albeit slowly, the thing I notice in IE is that the progress bar blinks instead of loading up as per normal, the same thing that Trond notice.

Posted by: audiopaal Apr 8 2008, 12:34 AM

Thanks Kris, loads faster for me at least smile.gif

eerh, when I try to listen to the song I uploaded, http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/guitar_forum/index.php?showtopic=13932&st=0

Posted by: Gus Apr 8 2008, 02:40 AM

You could be on to something there..

the problem here is the audio, when I try to listen it (without download it) I only can listen the first 3 second and then the reproduction ends... (and now I have a really-mega-fast-conection laugh.gif)

It's not a big problem but it would be great to solve it

(I tried it now and it fails again)

Only three seconds sad.gif

It's not too important though as I could change my browser (Trond says he ain't got a problem using Maxthon or IE)..
But it would be nice to get it fixed as I'm a fan of Firefox biggrin.gif

Posted by: audiopaal Apr 8 2008, 09:53 AM

There is a possibilty that this problem will be fixed with the new Quicktime version I see is available..

I'm downloading and installing now (slow line here...) but I'll let you know what's up when I've tried it smile.gif

Posted by: OrganisedConfusion Apr 8 2008, 09:59 AM

No problem for me here on IE7. They seem to load instantly although I am on 20 Mbps connection

Posted by: Danilo Capezzuto Apr 8 2008, 10:13 AM

The new server is more quick on video and forum pages. Now the site is working really good!

Posted by: audiopaal Apr 8 2008, 10:17 AM

Meh, that didn't work either I'm afraid...
Ah well.. Guess I'll swith to another browser for the time being then smile.gif

Still, thanks for doing a great job changing servers Kris smile.gif

If you could check it in another browser and let us know if it works for you, then it would really help us narrow down the problem! smile.gif

only 3 seconds again... I supose it would be a problem with Firefox compatibility...

Posted by: D.Robinson Apr 8 2008, 02:00 PM

It must be a Firefox problem.

When using IE all is well, everything loads fast mp3's play fine etc. When i try to load up in Firefox there is alot of hiccups, when loading pages it takes forever for the profile pictures to load. Playing mp3's it only runs around 3 to 4 seconds.

Vid lessons are taking an inordinate amount of time to load and run. The problem is more then likely a firefox issue.

We are working on the video problem - any info is appreciated as we have hard time testing because we don't have the problem ourselves! sad.gif Thanks!

In other words if you can isolate any trend it would be helpful...

Posted by: Outlaw2112 Apr 8 2008, 02:13 PM

I have the same problem... Video stops after 1 second..
I also use firefox

Posted by: Kristofer Dahl Apr 8 2008, 03:55 PM

We will soon let you in guys! wink.gif (and girls)

Posted by: Spreedmaster Apr 8 2008, 04:00 PM

I use Opera v9.24, everthing works perfectly fine.

BTW I would highly recommend this browser to anyone! IMHO its better than IE7, Firefox and Safari!

Go tho this page with IE:

Posted by: Trond Vold Apr 9 2008, 03:44 AM

Just had to mention that the average download speed has really increased. Not that i had any problems before, but now bigger files peak at ca. 1.2mb/sec

Posted by: Henkka Apr 9 2008, 06:48 PM

Heh ... I haven't really been around since that TeliaSonera - network routing hullabaloo, and I remember things weren't so good with the site performance before that.

I just downloaded a file uploaded by another user, 7mb mp3 -file... it took 5 seconds to download. biggrin.gif

Some improvement huh .... laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif
