Theremin, I've seen Jean Michel Jarre using one, it sounds warm, but weird smile.gif I think it's analog, it's a very simple device, containing nothing but oscilators and some current.

It was invented, by a Russian I believe, in the 1920's or 30's. It has been used in the past. The 60's band Beach Boys used it in "Good Vibrations". Jimmy Page used one some with Zep.

More recently it was brought to attention because it was used in the theme song to "Midsomer Murders", a long running British detective series, one of my personal favorite all time TV shows. Here is the theme song with the instrument, pretty spooky.

The vertical antenna controls the pitch, and the loop antenna controls the volume. The pitch is determined by the proximity of the hand relative to the antenna. The same concept also applies to the volume control.
