GMC Forum _ PRACTICE ROOM _ Results Of Gmc Missing Lessons Poll

Posted by: Col Roberts Jul 22 2008, 01:02 PM

First up, thanks to all who participated.

The strongest response was for more Death Metal (technical) lessons. Examples given were http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mSuVK_7xZc4 and http://youtube.com/watch?v=VIhKzi2ZuTU .

Next, more Metalcore lessons in the style of http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r2QFDMlitsE, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I0APr2Zo4oE and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cPFi2LE8P68.

Then, more Pentatonic Shred lessons.

Fusion Lessons in the style of http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U9qhFePV6zA, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-yPEewaalik and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=edVbz_uXJd0.

Acoustic lessons in the style of http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0qTnkbcKyFg and Paco de Lucia. And a campfire/country acoustic lesson (designed to impress listeners).

Rock ballads: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BX8_cc7Q6zM, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rYMupc564zE.

Southern Rock: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CkTQUtx818w&feature=related, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0WGVW7byRCA.

Rockabilly: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MPy2eTPUHAU&feature=related, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ggN-HKq3FG8&feature=related.

Punk: Sex Pistols style.

There was a strong call for a lesson on how a song is composed ... from the original idea, through each stage (choice of scales, theory etc.), to the recording of each track (not just the guitar parts). Maybe a video diary of your next song Kris?

Also, a guitar harmonizing lesson which includes the theory.

A lesson/tutorial on guitar tone. Perhaps this could revolve around how to achieve the guitar tones for particular styles or artists.

Many members want to see more of the theory behind the lessons. How the chords were selected etc.

There were many requests for Jason Becker and Steve Morse style lessons.

There were individual requests for the following lessons:

Eric Clapton from the http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FI8SUc2SV4k era
Jimmy Page
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HrLJ6Saq7u4
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vnSR1bKeosM
http://youtube.com/watch?v=GZjelOVCm84
Neil Young
Buckethead
Slayer-style whammy bar soloing
Folk metal http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bwVrbo3rpbw&feature=related
Gothic/Doom Metal (Paradise Lost, Draconian)
http://youtube.com/watch?v=UupqwDn3gRw
http://youtube.com/watch?v=JNG_Kn-m73M&feature=related)
Paul Gilbert (Racer X style)

Over to you Kris and our very special GMC instructors.

Great list, amazing effort, Col, I can't imagine all the work that lies behind this.

The only thing I'm wondering is, don't we have enough modern death metal and metalcore-lessons already? Maybe I'm in no place to ask that, but that's just the overall picture I have of the lesson archive.

Have taken note on that.

Posted by: Col Roberts Jul 24 2008, 08:26 AM

Thanks guys. It's great that we all have the power to make improvements, and are encouraged to do so, at GMC. But for now ....... I've got some practising to do. See you later.

oooh very nice biggrin.gif Col you are an unbelievable resource hehe.
I hope some Saliva style comes through, I've seen another guy requesting it in Gabriel Leopardi's instructor board; So I know I'm not the only one that like their style ^^.

But especially I like the "theory behind specific lesson" concept, sounds very rewarding as you would have a small piece of theory that fit the difficulty of the lesson with the practical lesson.

GMC could be pioneering on some learning processes here that other trades could learn from smile.gif
Thanks to all the great dedicated people behind it wink.gif

I feel the need to register my desire to learn some of Bucketheads signature licks. I have been searching far and wide but nothing seems to fit what im looking for sad.gif

Please will someone make my wish come true?? biggrin.gif wink.gif wink.gif I know his playing is "far out" but we have some awsomly skilled instructors here biggrin.gif

Yeah great lessons selected here.

I think the one on achieving a great Tone is the most important one there.

Really useful Col Roberts!

I agree I'd love to see even more rock solo lessons and hopefully a Buckethead style lesson too (hint: padmasana, soothsayer!) wink.gif

Thanks! wink.gif
