The factories in Japan is of high class. It's Taiwan and China thats usually lower-end quality.

Thats true I wouldn't want to buy what on the site they call a Jackson an get a Shechter. i'm not sure if that's a good analogie I think it's called.

More often then not a guitar shop just repeats the sales/marketing material from the manufacturer.
From what I've seen Epiphone say that the Elite are made with some US manufactured parts - pickups, switches etc in a special factory but don't state where the factory is located. Perhaps the sales person extrapolated from this and took the factory to be in the States? Its a big web site...they made a mistake ..I'm sure if you email them they fill fix it in the future
Japan is a great country with high quality manufacturing

Japan makes great guitars. My guess this LP is somewhere between a Korean Epi LP and USA Gibson LP
