The good folks at IZOTOPE have created a new version of their audio repair tool called RX8. For folks familiar with this tool, they know it can save a recording despite wind/sonic artifacts/etc. On the track. This was all fine and dandy, but guitar players had to go through a lot of work to fix a track that had too much hum, pick squeak, etc. To wit, they have released a new version of the software with guitar players in mind. It has a new section called the GUITAR DE-NOISE. It’s built with three sections particularly meant for guitar tracks. These modules are called AMP, SQUEAK and PICK. AMP is a module designed to tame very noisey guitar amps. What is a guitar amp? It’s a device often used prior to guitar plugins for amplifying a guitar and getting a good tone. These devices could be a bit noisey at times. The second module is called SQUEAK and it can take the squeak sounds sometimes caused by just moving the hands across the strings. The third module is called PICK and it’s purpose is to tame tracks where too much pick attack has passed into the recording. Taken together, it can save a guitar track that would otherwise have to be re recorded. Of course, doing another take isn’t always an option. If the amp/guitar/player is no longer available after the recording, it’s time to pull out RX8.
