GMC Forum _ GEAR & PRODUCTION _ Shred Guitar

Hey!

I'm currently looking for a new guitar... It needs to have a floating bridge, 24 frets and a good neck for playing fast biggrin.gif ... In short - a shred guitar... First I considered buying an Ibanez JEM555 but then read in several reviews that it was poor quality, and I can't afford the premium one sad.gif ... I would really appreciate if any of you could name a few guitars I should cosider...

Any of Ibanez RG Prestige serie would work great for those requirements! smile.gif

Building on Pavels comments, I would say (and this is based on reading and conversation, I haven't tried and of these yet) - in rough descending order of quality/price

1. Ibanez Jem7v - The ultimate according to Pavel, and he should know!
2. Ibanez Thru neck RG Prestige
3. Ibanez Jem555
4. Ibanez RG Prestige
5. Ibanez Thru neck RG
6. Ibanez RG

You could probably argue about the relatve order of 3 vs 2 and 4. Ibanez guitars below the Prestige get the Edge III tremelo instead of the Edge pro - Pro is considered to be better,

Then you are getting into other makes - some of which may be on par with the more expensive Ibanezes

7. Various Schecters - get great reviews and seem to be exceptional value at their price point
8. Jackson may be worth a look

I'm after a similar instrument, saving some Cash. I decided to go for at least a Prestige RG, and maybe if the gods are kind I might be able to afford a Jem :-)

Regards,

Andrew

i havea schecter blackjack myself and i've played pretty much every schecter its definetly up there with shredability ibanez guitars have one disability with shred the cut out on the bottom doesnt work for me when i try and play someting iwth a 12-18 span cause my hands are pretty big. schetcers best shred guitar i'd say is the c7 hellraiser with floyd rose it's just wicked and it looks damnnn nice in cherry red. of course you cant forget the deans they just whail no questions asked you go to the dean guitar site and choose one you like based ona appearence because you can garrenty it'll suffice in almost all other aspects

Interesting thread. Im toying between the Paul Gilbert PGM301 or the entry Level JEM (555 is it?). Due to where I live, It is unlikely i can try eitherbefore I buy sadly. The PGM301 appeals due to its fixed bridge ,action and tone. But I also like the JEM's, decisions!

I recently bought an Ibanez RG350 "exclusive" model on a closeout price for $269 at music123.com

Guitars are usually $399.

Would be hard to find something equal or better for that price.

Glad they sent me a newsletter with the sale tongue.gif
