I've been member here since the beginning of the summer, and I must say that this site is like my second home!
Everything works great, there are about everything a guitar player wants, but I have some small things on my wishlist
that will make the site even better:

a ) A lot of the lessons is made without a metronome when the instructors show's how to play the solo's in slower tempos. For rythmic advanced lessons, I will say that this will help a lot, since You can't get hold of a phrase played extremely slow without a reference in rythm.

b ) Often when I browse the lessons from the right, I find lessons that I haven't seen before. When I then go to the lesson, I have no clue if it's anew lesson or if it's an old one - eg. I miss a date when the lesson is published. Maybe I have missed it in some way, but I can't find a date on the lessons.

Otherwise all instructors, community participants and other people are doing a great job, and the site is really a HUGE resource for any aspiring serious guitar player.

I agree.

GMC is not perfect, but nothing is. The really great thing about GMC is the sense that you are not alone. There is always someone either an instructor or member about who is ready and willing to offer support, encouragement and advice. In other words the strenth of GMC is the community.

Staffy I think both your suggestions are really good. I have often thought about the metronome one recently because I have been focusing on some of the lessons finally. This would really help not only with getting the timing of the licks down but also how the different note groupings sound. What I mean is something like 16th verses 16th trips etc. Hope that makes some since.

As for your second suggestion about have a Born on Date. The only way I found to get this is to go to the comments tab and look at the date of the first post. It works but isn't convenient.

Regards

EDIT: PS. I have noticed the backing tracks on some of the newer lessons just have names like 01, 02, etc. Having the metronome speed in the track name is a great help. Some instructors do it and some don't. Maybe we need some sort of consistancy accross the board for everyone/everything or a lesson template maybe. Basically there is one now but of few of the small things are diffenrent.

"Think of a guitar solo as a paragraph. You need a clear beginning, a middle, and an end. Look at musical phrases like sentences, and make sure you break them up using punctuation—or space. You pause naturally when conversing, right? If you don't, you'll bore the listener. The same thing will happen with your audience if your solo is one dimensional. You'll wear them out and lose their attention." —Tom Principato

Yeah, I did that too, but a date somewhere on the main page for the lesson, would have been a great help.

I have also missed a date when the lesson was posted. I always go to the feedback part to see the date the first comment was posted.
Also, it could be cool with a possibility to browse lessons you have not seen before. smile.gif

The new metronome adjusts to any bpm you want doesnt it? It may not be exactly in time with what the instructor is playing necessarily, but I've never had a problem with it. Then again, I'm mostly doing intermediate stuff, not the really fast ones.

Yeah, I know , but thats not what we are talking about, we are talking about the Instructors USING metronome in the videos, not the metronome on the site...

+1 on point b) I have found that particular one irksome. I have found a really cumbersome workaround though. I go to the feedback for the video lesson and gauge the publish date from the first comment as usually GMC'ers are quick to respond to a new upload. Doesn't really solve anything but at least it gives an idea to its age.

[EDIT] >> Already covered I see ... So I ain't the only one who found a way to get around this little "feature".

I would go so far as to suggest a "Browse by Date" feature for the video lesson archive. The current filter doesn't allow date range, for instance, where one could just check out lessons uploaded in the last month etc. THAT would be handy!!! Maybe, god forbid, someone had gone on a GMC holiday for a while and wanted a quick and fast method to search just for the latest and greatest.

The metronome thing is a great idea, but does it really play a role how old a lesson is? Well, I am not saying there should not be a date, but I don't really care about the age of the lesson, good lessons are timeless wink.gif
