GMC Forum _ PRACTICE ROOM _ Final Countdown Solo

Posted by: Mareng Dec 21 2007, 10:19 PM

Hello everyone!

I'm trying to learn the solo in Europe - The Final Countdown and I'm having a hard time with the speedy stuff in the beginning of the solo.. I don't get how to play it.. Anyone here that can play the solo and explain the rhythmic pattern and how it works? I've attached the correct tab..

check out Muris's Sweep Picking lesson, that's a 2 string sweep, and yeah it's preety tricky, I still can't do it sad.gif

for the first bit id play the 12th fret on the b string downstroke, then upstroke 10th fret on the e string hammer on 14th and pull off to 10 again, then repeat as needed. i don't know if that's right, i never tried playing this solo before. biggrin.gif

every tab I've seen for the solo shows it as arpeggios that are swept, and that way, it's not all that difficult because you can basically just play them with your left hand.

EDIT: 3 string arps.

Hmm I don't know about that..

I actually sort of found the answer to my question myself just by asking it here on the forum ^^
But thanks anyway, now I have to start practicing! smile.gif

Yea it sometimes helps to actually put it all down and ask the question, makes you look at it a bit differently if your stuck with something, plus the help you get from everyone gives some direction too, glad you worked it out smile.gif

ok i played that nice solo befor maybe 5 years ago its has some technques you have to play the arpegios slowly first and if you have the midi of that song it will help you try to do it slowly first then little faster after that to the normall speed of the song any way playing many notes in one picking thats help you

i suck at the little sweeps so i would just cheat and tap it all smile.gif just rewrite is to the noteson the B string in the beginning are on the high e string... but thats if you wanna cheat like me haha

Thanks smells! It feels good when that happens : )

Khaos Keith, hehe actually I'm a terrible tapper, it's supposed to be very easy right? :S I can play it reasonably fast but I never get it to sound good in the sense that I feel it's good enough for a solo, don't know what I'm doing wrong.. I think my fingers are much too weak to be able to hit the strings with the strength required to produce a sound loud enough.. So I'll go for the picking stuff ^^

try some of the tapping lessons, you may find its more likely your tapping technique, than weakness in the fingers, its an excellent technique to learn m8, can add some gr8 things with tapped notes. smile.gif

The fast bit is tricky, timing wise. Play it very slow and speed it up, its the only way!
