I just picked up the PRS Mikael Ackerfeldt signature model, for a review and I realized it much resembles a Gibson Les Paul, not only in shape but also in tone and feel. Before showing you guys the video, here are my first impressions:

- Playability - the neck is a bit chubbier - more like the Gibson necks then the PRS necks I've been accustomed to on both Paul Allender models, the Custom 24 or the Mike Mushok baritone.

- Tone - it is dark and nasal, as opposed to the brighter, crispier tone of the other PRS guitars I have tried so far. The mahogany body has a lot to do with this and that thicker neck as well, I think.

The pickups seem to have high output as in, if I crank up the gain on the AMT and also give it a boost with the Suhr Shiba drive, it will have quite a bite!

I will probably manage to shoot the review this week, so stay tuned wink.gif

Cosmin

Seems its a shred guitar trapped inside a LP's body smile.gif

Not that comfy, at least for my hands, but the neck has a satin finish and that makes it feel a lot better than a Gibson neck - so who knows, maybe you are right wink.gif

Look forward to the Vid Cosmin!!
I swapped out the P/Ups on one of those for a set of Blackouts a couple of months ago for someone.

The guy I did it for is over the moon with it now, he plays in Drop C mainly. To my ears it's boosted the clarity of the higher Low end frequencies and the mids quite a bit. It even has a bit more sparkle in the higher frequencies too.

Nice guitar Cosmin! Congrats! I wonder if this one is similar to Mark Tremonti SE model. I have tried the SE version and it's very comfortable for me. The only thing that I didn't like are the pick ups which I would change for a pair of Seymour Duncan.

Spot on smile.gif The cranked up high gain tone is a bit dirty as I see it too! I don't know YET if I am going to get this one for myself... or not smile.gif YET

look like a really nice guitar, how does the tuning hold up to whammy usage?

Have you ever tried the Fredrik Akesson PRS? If you ever get the chance for a test drive I'd be interested on your thoughts...... Im thinking about getting one next year sometime smile.gif

Haha biggrin.gif They are great for an Opeth fan, but a bit too fuzzy in respect to the tone and chubby on the hands for my taste smile.gif

Yeah, that was his main reason for wanting the B/Outs put in!
