So yeah, 400 dollars is going to be my limit for this one, I need something that'll handle a good amount of distortion, and basically one that will last for quite sometime. Anybody have any suggestions?
Also I'm not very picky about brands either.

Schecter makes some great guitars in that price range. Top notch pick ups....great build quality...Nice hardware. Hard to go wrong I have owned two and they were both really good guitar.

Another piece of advice, when you go to a place to try out some guitars, you can even find one that's like $425-450 and say that you're probably going to shop around for a good value. They will very quickly drop the price. I was actually very surprised how quickly the guy said, "I can definitely bring this under $500."

I don't like the low end schecters because IMO the duncan design pickups are so-so. They're not the worst, but they're clearly not the best. Personally, the necks on schecters are a touch thick for me.

Whatever it is you buy, I'd make sure it has name brand pickups.

Personally, I'd recommend holding out for a decent set neck or thru neck if you can find it.

ESP's LTD line makes some great guitars, but then so does Ibanez and Jackson.

Good point +1 on that.

Here's a couple that I would recommend:

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/ESP...Thru?sku=512883
If you don't mind the outlandish shape, not sure how the pickups would be, but the important part is its a "set thru" whatever that means, my guess at that price point is that it's a set neck.

and another with a somewhat more traditional style that boasts neck thru, assuming that $20 outside your price range won't be a deal breaker.

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/ESP...itar?sku=516663

This one packs the best electronics, don't know about the construction though, assuming you can live with passive EMGs. The flame is pretty nice for a guitar at this price point:

Here's a stunning Ibanez, I'm not sure on the INF pickups though, you could always swap them to something a little hotter on down the line if you cared to:

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Iba...itar?sku=519784

another that would be pretty good, but I'm not sure about 25.1" scale, they say that the S has 25.5" scale, I've got an 02 S and it's assuredly not a 25.5" scale. Pickups are probably lackluster, but they all will be at this price point, unfortunately.

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Iba...itar?sku=516795

Not a bad price on the schecter with EMGs, but I wouldn't recommend a FR guitar if you plan on playing in alternate tunings.

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Sch...itar?sku=513103

At this point, I'd try to find a guitar with a neck profile you like with set or thru body construction then your next item can be pickups, when you get more serious.

Pickups probably aren't the most important item at this point until you're playing through a more serious rig.

guitars with a neck through design are amazing. http://www.bcrich.com/ makes alot of neck-through designs. but most of them are above your range. but there is still guitars from them are are $400 or under that are good. the pickups may need a switch, but for the looks, it still plays amazing.

The ESP Ltd's here are bad buys, made of agathis - NOT a quality wood, at least with the Ibanez and Schecters you know you might get something that is of good solid build, pickups can be replaced and updated as can tremolo systems but bodies would be much more hassle to change.

At this price point you're going to have to compromise between wood and hardware/construction, because you can't seem to get both (at least that I have found).

Honestly never played an agathis body.
