For I need some chorus and some distortion (I have just the amplifier's - a Laney 65w - pedal which sounds really too clean), I was thinking about buying Digitech's Distortion Factory and Chorus Factory. I'd like to have a powerful sound, hard but not really extreme (not Death Metal, for example). I like to play classic hard rock but sometimes some blues as well. Does anyone have some advice? Have you tried these pedals How're they? (seen a good offer on Ebay...)
Er, forgotten my guitar is a Strato Mex which doesn't sound bad at all, but has vintage single coil pickups. Should I change the pickups as well to get a more powerful sound, or will it get damaged? Maybe a good distortion could be enough?

I personally recommend you Ibanez Tube Screamer TS9, but try to get the original one with JRC4558D chip, usually produced in 1981-83, the reissues are not that good.

This overdrive pedal is great for rock and blues, Edge from U2 use one as well

Hey Angelica,

I have the DF-7 Distortion factory and absolutley love it. I got it for christams and have had so much fun playing around with it. Whether your going for, blues to metal this pedal has it all. I've had no problems getting the right tone for stuff like Zeppelin, RATM, GNR etc. It's a wonderful pedal in my opinion. As for a chorus pedal I don't have much experience with them so I can't help you there But if you have anymore questions on the DF-7 I'd be more then happy to help you out.

maybe you can try a multi effect processor, i think thats the best option as for beginner/rookie guitar players, and then later buy pedals so you can experiment with many effects, but its always better to have analog effects like pedals then digital processor, thats what im thinking

Actually, I already have a digital multi-fx, and I don't like it at all. Ok I admit that it's from xoom, which to my mind is not a good brand. But for example, a friend of mine has the v-amp from behringer (it does it all!) but I don't like its sound at all, it seems to me just as... don't know how to describe...a kind of toy (even though it looks like a good one). Therefore, I absolutely prefere analog effects, last week i bought a wah and i adore it. And, you know, I'm not properly a rookie . I can fairly improvise riffs on the pentathonic and the major scale, even though I'm pretty slow, and It's since some years that I have being playing (not so good, ok, but enough to now belong to quality gear ).

I suggest boss DS-1 for rock type of distortion (its not for metal) to just push that amp over the edge , and boss CE-5 as chorus pedal..Boss pedals are very high quality and reliable and can't go wrong with them I heard that digitech pedal at one gig and it didn't sound very well (it sounded digital)...But it may work for you , depends how it gets along with your amp..

Boss pedals are definitely better choice, they are more flexible, constant, and durable, which means that they sound pretty much the same no matter where you plug them, they sound better on high volumes and on good amps. Most pedals sound bad on high volumes including DF7. I've heard the pedal on gigs and didn't like it, too sythnetic. But if you wanna use it at home, maybe it is the right choice because it's versatile.

Me to suggest DS1 for sharp and edgy distortion sound, but not everyone likes it, and the pedal requers a tube amp to show it's full potential.

As for chorus, don't really know... I have CE5 and it is not an excellent pedal, don't get me wrong not a bad chorus at all, very good for a digital device, on gigs works perfect and all, but maybe it is too subtle, if you wanna deep all around chorus look somewhere else. If you wanna something to sugar-up your rock licks and drive leads it does the job great. It works great with drive settings too.

Hey Angelica. Go old school and pick up a used MXR distortion on eBay. Early model. I sold mine years ago and I regret it to this day. Those are classic and you should be able to get one for cheap!

+1 for the MXR, those suckers are great too

Also check the Boss OD1, it's a classic but a reference one. A real old school versatile pedal.
