Hey everyone.

I have has a Line 6 Spider 3 30W for about a year now. The only effect I run into it is a Slash Crybaby and my guitar is an Ibanez RG1570 w/ stock pickups. I find that I cannot find a good tone anywhere near like anything I hear people like Marcus get from his POD. I just can't get a smooth distorted sound for when I am playing legato, sweeps etc

I would appreciate if anyone could help me to coax a smoother tone for more technical or shreddy playing out of this amp. I don't have any money at the moment so I can't afford a small tube amp, new pickups etc

Also, does anyone have any opinions on the stock pickups in my RG1570? Personally I find them a bit too high gain and they don't help sustain or note clarity much but I'm open to amp settings which could help me achieve that fluid smooth distorted tone that you here from guys like MAB, John Petrucci (yes I realise the complexity of their rigs and the time and money that goes into them) and the sweet almost liquidy tones of many other great shredders

All input and suggestions appreciated!

Post some records so we can help you to improve your tone. I think that your amp can have some good sounds, the pickups are stock pickups so you can replace them with a steve's special in the bridge position ( this pickup have little middle so can help with smooth legato) and an air norton in the neck ( these are the same as the Ibanez JPM... wink.gif ) or go with a pair of breed...Bye.

Hey Danilo!

Great to hear from you and a love your lessons on finger independence they are amazing! Unfortunately, I have no means by which to record my playing as I don't have a camera or a microphone. I see that you and I both are John Petrucci fans and I would love in the future to have that pickup combination (I have thought about those very pickups before).

However, people have told me that high quality pickups wouldn't affect my tone greatly because the amp is digital and the sound is highly processed. Is this true about digital amps particularly the spider series?

sry but yeah, I've heard a lot about how the spider series are VERY processed. I'd save up a few hundred bucks then get a USED tube amp. go to a store that's not all new stuff from 2007-2008. good luck smile.gif
