Some great tips here smile.gif Had to share it everywhere. I hear so many tracks that just need serious help and it's just not that hard to fix. He does a great job of showing how easy it is to track decent sounding guitars smile.gif

And the best thing is that most of the stuff there, can be owned by normal folks smile.gif I noticed the Focusrite Scarlet interface, which is pretty affordable.

Very true!! He's using an iMac with some decent near field monitors and a scarlet interface smile.gif So yeah, iti's affordable gear and goes to show you can get great results in a home studio with a modest budget smile.gif

Well... that iMac is not necessarily the cheapest tool in the shed biggrin.gif But the Scarlet and the monitors are not that expensive indeed.

The thing is that anyone can do it with the right knowledge of how to choose the tools and prepare them smile.gif

Heheheh yeah that's very true!!! smile.gif But these days the "starter" 24 inch screen iMac is about $1,299 which is very reasonable for a nice computer IMHO smile.gif It's still about double what you'd pay for a PC but does include the screen/monitor which is built in smile.gif

But even cheaper, you can get a used MAC MINI and use the screen/monitor from a PC! And that can be done for about $300 for a nice fast little unit smile.gif Sometimes, you can find them with LOGIC/cubase/ProTools pre installed on Ebay for no extra money smile.gif

Ah mate - well in here, you can get a PC that swooshes like an arrow for about 700 bucks - add the monitor and you go up to 1000 bucks. Many people regard the Mac as a toy for people who want to belong to an exclusive club... not me tho smile.gif I just didn't have enough money when the time came.

I hear ya!! For me it's not really about it being in the "club" smile.gif Just that it's the only way to run LOGIC PRO X and FINAL CUT PRO X which I need for doing music! smile.gif

Ah, yeah man, totally - I mean, I am not bashing Mac at all smile.gif I know these are VERY powerful machines which are designed for optimal performance and no tweaking - just ideal for a not so techie guy like me smile.gif

They aren't for everyone to be sure. One of our very own GMCers (who shall remain nameless) recently bought a mac and just hated it and returned it for a PC. But for using certain things that don't exist on a PC (e.g. final cut and Logic) it's a must smile.gif

Frankly, I haven't yet had the opportunity to work with a Mac at home, but I have a good friend whom I am seeing very often and he is a Mac guy from head to toes. I like what I see when we work together on different projects, so this is why I think it will do the trick for me.

Does he use LOGIC PRO X or FINAL CUT? Both of those programs are the only reason I have a Mac at all to be honest smile.gif Everything else you can do just fine on PC smile.gif

He is a graphic designer and a programmer smile.gif He uses none of the above because he doesn't need to, but he would eat iSandwiches if there was such a thing laugh.gif

Yeah man, exactly what I was discussing with Todd in this thread - pretty much nothing that can't be covered with a little bit of investment. What sort of gear do you use for recording?

Well said smile.gif Also, notice the economy of play done by Mr. Misha in this vid. He just plays a lick and does a bit of copy and paste and boom! He's putting together a track smile.gif Of course, he could play the whole thing, too, and probably does. Just showing a quick and dirty technique smile.gif And BINGO on the gear!! PERIPHERY did their first album ENTIRELY IN A BEDROOM!!!!!! yup. THe drums were software, all of it was mixed "in the box' E.G. on a computer without an actual mixing console per the old days, and it sounded pretty spiff wink.gif

With a half decent PC or MAC and a bit of software and a guitar with recording interface, you really can put together some good sounding tracks smile.gif

Todd

I use my about 5 years old Asus laptop with USB for recording. I'm going to buy second guitar some day and also new PC, but right now my budget is too tight for this kind of things and I have to manage with these. biggrin.gif
