GMC Forum _ CHILL OUT _ 2012, Who Believes It

Posted by: The Uncreator Jan 9 2009, 01:21 AM

When I first heard why the world was supposed to end I actually thought it was quite pathetic. History Channel and other channels have about 100 specials a day on this, So I looked it up and on december 21st, 2012, when the sun rises above the horizon the earth and sun will line up with the center of galaxy......And thats all they got. This happens roughly every 25,800 years. Given earth has been around for approximately 4.5 billion years, this event has happened about 1774186 times and there is no evidence of the world ending that many times, (I would think there would be some).

Just had to vent this, It frustrates me for some reason.

PS

Excuse me if my math is bad ph34r.gif But its pretty close

PPS

I do however give the Mayans credit for having an impossibly accurate calendar

PPPS

I also know that alot of other things are supposed to happen in 2012, like the world be shown psychic connection and a "nossphere" will be created, Something my Physics teacher told me that sounded cool. A connection of all human thought or something.

Posted by: skennington Jan 9 2009, 01:28 AM

Thought this to be kind of crazy but at the same time a bit intriguing as well. The Mayan calender ends and were suppose to believe the world will too... We had a bit of discussion a while back and I think the general consensus was that it's not going to happen.. laugh.gif Still a nice read though..

Done that quite a few times myself man.. laugh.gif I would still love to hear what some of the newer members think about this topic.

Posted by: Fsgdjv Jan 9 2009, 01:41 AM

Yes I believe that there will be a year 2012.

Edit: How can you get a cool reason for edit like that?

Posted by: The Uncreator Jan 9 2009, 02:11 AM

When you do edit, at the bottom it should say "Reason For Edit". It might be only Mods have it, Im not sure.

Posted by: Enucleation Jan 9 2009, 04:18 AM

Yeah I'm quite positive that the 2012 thing is false.

Mainly I believe this is false because of religion. But even still the whole idea of it seems dumb

Posted by: Dreamcatcher Jan 9 2009, 04:32 AM

At the rate this world is going...im thinking 2011 lol lets hope things get better in the world and maybe we may make it to 2012 to find out. Nah I think we will be around for a little longer than that actually but i can see why people get distressed over those types of programs. My fiance was the same way when i was watching it and she was listening from across the room.

Posted by: utak3r Jan 9 2009, 09:02 AM

Hey, since I live on this earth, I've passed over three dates of worlds end already wink.gif So take it easy wink.gif I'm still living...

Posted by: Crazyfret Jan 9 2009, 09:10 AM

Obviously Rush don't believe it ...thats how come they wrote 2112 cause they travelled forward in time and found out that the guitar was an instrument of evil according to the Priests at the Temple of Syrinx! tongue.gif

Posted by: Canis Jan 9 2009, 10:29 AM

Well, they've been wrong so far. But when it comes to the end of the world, you only need to be right once, right?

The Mayans believed that the world "as we know is" will end. Something with Ether...

Posted by: Caelumamittendum Jan 9 2009, 10:42 AM

Not much of a believer myself either. As you said it yourself, these things have occured numorous times. Besides that, much of this has evolved through religion and faith in the aforementioned. I'm not much into believing in religion and such, but take the science approach.

Posted by: The Uncreator Jan 9 2009, 12:18 PM

I think the Rush idea is the most solid and believable, And that sentenced has no biased elements in it, I swear ph34r.gif

I still have some friend who believe the 2012 thing, Even though they have no idea who the mayans or nostradamus or anyone else who predicted it are.

Posted by: Trond Vold Jan 9 2009, 12:48 PM

Personally i think it's a load of nonsense smile.gif
The event that occurs on 21-12 2012 has as mentioned before happened quite a number of times before, but the planet is still intact.

Posted by: jer Jan 9 2009, 01:08 PM

Yeah. Everyone thought there would be all kinds of problems on 01/01/01. All the machines would stop working. Total chaos.....

And that was all related to man's doing. No cosmic alignment or anything....

If anyone can destroy the world its man.

And he didnt do it then.

Posted by: Ivan Milenkovic Jan 9 2009, 01:40 PM

Depends how you look at it actually. I don't think the world will end, we will simply go into another age. New Age.

Posted by: ztevie Jan 9 2009, 01:41 PM

Yeah, mankind hardly need any help exterminating themselves?
We're pretty much doomed already, just because of our own stupidity. And if we can't kill ourselfes soon enough, it's just a matter of time before incurable disease, nuclear war, asteroid to come crashing down or us destroying the environment making the earth impossible to live on?

If you think about it, how long have man existed rally? If I remember right, someone said that if the life of earth is 24 hours, mankind has been around 1 second... So why should we "live forever"?
So just play yer guitars, and wait for the day of doom, and remember to play only the minor scales, they fit better than those jolly, happy major ones some use... wink.gif

Posted by: Wabba Jan 9 2009, 01:46 PM

I don't believe that.
Homever every human race that has ever existed on earth, has survived 200,000 years. And our race has existed almost 200,000 years...
Anyway, I still don't care. If we are doomed it's because of ourselves, not because some ancient calendar says so.

Posted by: Sensible Jones Jan 9 2009, 01:49 PM

If the World ends on 21/12/2012 I'll eat my hat the Day Afterwards!!!
biggrin.gif

Posted by: Fran Jan 9 2009, 01:51 PM

I don't believe it because there's no convincing scientific prove backing the whole theory, beisdes we've seen these doom stories in the past, and they weren't true (luckily laugh.gif), as when people said that the world would end in 1999, then 2000, then 2001... now it's 2012... laugh.gif

I bet in 2014 they'll say the world will end in 2025 smile.gif

And for our own good, I hope they are wrong cool.gif

Posted by: Daniel Robinson Jan 9 2009, 02:02 PM

I just think the whole thing is hoo-haa.

My only 2 cents on the subject is to point out that the Mayans calender and the Mayan thinking in general is cyclic.

Yes their calender is undeniably accurate, but from a cosmic point of view i just think that when that date occurs it is just the "End of the cycle". Their whole philosphy and culture is based on themes that re-occur. This lining up with the center of the galaxy is just the summation of the cycle.

Now from a scientific standpoint, we know that humans are effected by magnetic fields, and more than probably more effected by them then we know at this point.

I have always thought that this lining up could have an effect on the human brain and as we approach this time of apex i have a theory that it is effecting humans in a certain way.

Course that just my tilt on it.

so what's your plan for 21-12-2012
in any case don't miss to play that song

and does anyone know in which timezone the end of the world is going to take place?

Posted by: thefireball Dec 12 2012, 03:08 AM

I know this is an old thread, but I have heard the Mayan calendar doesn't actually end, it just is ready to start over like we do on Dec 31. Nevertheless, I don't believe we shall end this year. God will destroy this earth some day with fire. He tells us so in the Bible. Whether you believe it or not. wink.gif This earth has at least 1000 years more, because God has to come and set up His kingdom first in Jerusalem.

Not intending to start a war here, just compelled to speak the truth is all. smile.gif

Posted by: Patrik Berg Dec 12 2012, 03:38 AM

time will tell i suppose, as for the bible, nice story.

Posted by: Gitarrero Dec 12 2012, 07:25 PM

I was foolish enough to make plans for december 22...and the days that are following. These include a bunch of concerts. So the world must not end.
As for the 21. I am going to see an icehockey game with a few friends.

So if it's the end of the world, I'll have a beer in my hand, watching a manly sport laugh.gif

Well, as far as the Mayan Prophecy is concerned... They didn't have Leap Years so according to their calculations the world should have ended about 3 months ago!!!
wink.gif

Posted by: Ben Higgins Dec 12 2012, 08:49 PM

I only think the world will end when there's an epic battle between Odin and Zeus to prove who's the most 'manliest' of Gods ! (Although that's an oxymoron anyway)

Odin will declare he's stronger but Zeus will insist that he's got the best abs.... seriously, when that shiz goes down you'd better be ready..

Posted by: WeePee Dec 12 2012, 08:55 PM

Well if the world ends 21.12 and you don't have any money, now it's good time to get loads of bank loans. You'll have plenty of days to left party and see the world biggrin.gif

But you'll have a hell of a payback time if it (world) wont end.

Posted by: SirJamsalot Dec 12 2012, 09:18 PM

The Mayans are wrong. The world already ended - the incorrect part of the prophecies was the "as we know it" portion. What happened was in 1999, the world was invaded by martians, who quickly stole our bodies to use as a food source, and plugged our disembodied brains into a vast network for research purposes. They erased the invasion from our memory and keep our experience and non-invasion memories in tact to study us. We are all disembodied brains living in a jar. Matrix had it kind of correct.

Humans are not physically able to know when and why there might be a world's end. The only thing they found is faith.

I'm not willing to be disrespectful in any kind of manner, so don't take it personnaly smile.gif

may not necessarily be an apocalypse but a change. its true the earth has been here for 4.5 billion years but in that time there has been a tremendous amount of geological upheaval, climactic calamities and mass extinctions. the earth will survive until the sun expands but life on the earth may change

Mayans calendar doesn't predict the end of the world, it's the end of the world's life cycle.

Same with Nostradamus predictions, which have been very accurrate (a few hundred or so coming true).

The end of the world's life cycle could lead it the following:
1) Increase in Earthquakes and Volcano - land activities (check)
2) Increase in Tornados and Hurrances - wind activities (check)
3) Potential devastation from the sky

If you believe in Evolution:
1) Inhabitants may undergo a positive physical or spiritual transformation
2) Mankind might be wiped out like the dinosaurs

If you believe in the Bible (which actually has an extremely high prediction rate of coming true, with thousands of predictions in the past)- the prediction goes (translated):
1) Warning signs such as increase in natural disasters (check)
2) Potential devastation from the sky
3) Eclipses or block out of the sun (day will turn to darkness)
4) Moon turns blood red (this can be caused by an eclipse, pollution or dust from nuclear fallout in the earth's atmosphere)
5) Natural Eclipses (have already pasted for 2012)
6) Increased dividing between countries / increase in wars (check)
7) God will intervene before it is too late (mankind will almost wipe itself out on it's own freewill)
8) Worldwide will know about it
9) Increae in false prophets and coming of more anti-christs (check)
10) Increase in famines / dividing rich from poor (check)
11) Tribulation
12) The date of Judgement Day will be unknown, but penty of warning will be given (your a fool to attempt to predict it's date and fear it, however your also fool not to be ready for it)
13) There will be a new heaven and a new earth someday. The old earth will go through purification by fire (yet we don't need to fear). The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything done in it will be laid bare.
14) The increasing nuclear threat (check)

I did some research on this and I can assure you nothing will happen , why ?

- Mayan calendar doesn't end, it just continues with 13.0.0.0.0, It just starts a new cycle.
- There are several allignments of planets , however this has happened before.
- Solarflames could be the cause but this but its a low chance. There are solarflames as of now. The only thing
that happens with large solar flames is that our wireless systems can malfunction.
- Some say the polars will turn around, guess what, no problem , we people can handle polar changes and our
body can handle this.

I am 100% sure that the world doesn't end in 2012, There are just people that will always say that the world is coming to and end,
They also said it in 2000. There are just people who need their attention.

on that date the Earth will pass through the galactic equator/plane. homo sapiens didnt exist last time that happened so we dont really know what will happen. but if it does cause a polar shift, think about the mechanics behind that. what causes our magnetosphere? its our iron core (a huge magnet). if that does an about face, it will cause huge geological upheavals. within the last decade or so the north pole actually has migrated 40 miles. there also has been increased geological and meteorological activity in the last decade.
