Question About Sustain, And About Tone.

Jan 8 2008, 09:29 PM	Learning Apprentice Player Posts: 411 Joined: 15-August 07 From: Brugge, Belgium	Hi GMC! I noticed lately my sustain isn't what it was when I bought my guitar (august). I seem to have less sustain, the notes don't hold as long as they used to... Could it be that my guitar isn't set up properly? Oh, I have to move my guitar every monday (parents are divorced), so maybe this is why my guitar's set up became worse? And the second question I have is the next one... I don't really like the paint job on my first guitar... It's just grey, nothing else. So I'd like to paint some things on it, but what kind of paint can I use to paint on such kind of finish? (Don't know if it's clear enough what I mean, I hope so) Or maybe there are some alternatives instead of paint, like stickers... Does it have active pickups? ---If so, the 9volt might be dead also, ---When did you change your strings last? ---If all else fails crank the gain! It might need a turn of the truss rod or a combo of several small things. It's hard to tell without looking at it but I would think that that would return your axe to its former glory. This is because metals become stiffer and more brittle the more times they elongate then return to normal (for example every single time you pluck the string). This is also why bridges are under-designed more often than not because most engineers forget that cyclical loading lowers steels yield strength over time even if the loading is only a fraction of what the steel can handle. If you haven't changed the strings yet do that and don't take it to the shop until you do (why waste money?). Also, as far as paint and stickers are concerned just put whatever you want on the guitar man. It's yours so have fun with it! Personally, I like my guitars clean from stuff but otherwise who cares? Thanks for the love man! If you use an Enamel paint it should stick no problem. If you are looking to paint the entire guitar I suggest fine sanding it first, then spraying a high quality automotive grade paint to the entire body followed by 1 or more clear coats. The more clear coats the glossier the look. If you just wanna make it ugly like Van Halen's Frenkenstein then don't worry about what paint you use. Jan 11 2008, 10:21 PM	GMC:er Posts: 667 Joined: 6-July 07 From: Atlanta, GA, USA	My recommendations for "painting" your guitar are 3 fold: Sharpie (black is preferable, but you can use the blue/red/green if you like) Silver paint pen Gold paint pen Keep in mind any finish you put on it isn't going to look like a professional finish unless you sand then coat and let dry for weeks/month, so if you can't be bothered to go through the trouble, why go through the trouble? give some spray paint a try, that could be interesting.
