Welcome to SHRED BOOTCAMP! I'll be your Drill Instructor! And I do mean DRILL! As in a large power tool used in slasher films and Paul Gilbert concerts. Here is were you EARN THE LIVING DEATH out of your fingers and break through any speed bumps/barriers to become a MASTER CHIEF of Shred!
THE MISSION
1.)Your mission is to go all the way back to the very start. The base of the mountain.
LESSON 1. http://bitly.com/gmclesson1
Which you will play SLOWWWWWWLLY, very SLOWWWLLLLYYYY until you master it at a crawl (As You'll Do With Each Mission, and focus on left hand FORM! Make it SUPER PERFECT!). Speed it up bit by bit until you feel your ready to take it to WAR (Any speed, it's up to you) Shoot a video and post it as a reply to this post. I'll then offer a constructive and brutally honest critique.
THE AFTERMATH
Upon nailing the crap out of lesson one at a speed you didn't think possible, and playing it a clean as a freshly waxed floor, you will be given your first insignia of Rank in BOOTCAMP!
Here is your link your personal training ground/HELL!

Todd
Thank you Sir !
I am proud that you are my Drill Instructor , even when i am a bit scared
So i stard at the very ground -- looking forward to kick asses
Dieter
Welcome to the fight Soldier!!!!
Todd
Ok Todd here a first Record !
Congrats on your FIRST BATTLE!!!! Your picking looks good and your form is good as well!!!! The only trouble is that I'm having trouble telling where your pick strikes are synching with the beat. If you would, try to use either a simple click metronome, or very basic drum beat like we do in chat. That way, I can tell much easier where you pick strikes are synching to the beat. You are VERY close to your first rank up Soldier!!!!
Todd
Here with a bit less drum bits - Metronome is to quietly on zoom hope this is better 240 bpm
You've got the technique down solder but that "hot for teacher" beat is preventing you from synching up properly. For bootcamp, try to use a simple beat not much different than a metronome click if at all possible. Nothing with any "Swing" in it. It's just for reference timing after all. Here is an MP3 of a straight beat at 140 BPM. If you play twice as fast as the track, you'll be playing at 280. Half as fast, you'll be doing 70 bpm. All while using the same beat. Give this one a listen and try to use it in your next recording. I hate to have you do this again soldier, but I need to be able to hear the synchronization between your picking and the beat. Fight on!!!

Here is a quick vid I did as an example of what I"m looking for in your Mission Video, Soldier! One pass of single picking, one pass of double picking, make sure I can see your picking hand and fretting hand, and using a simple beat locked in to each pick strike. Here it is Soldier!!!
BTW Soldier, I"m doing SINGLE and DOUBLE picking in the demo vid here, the Tablature is QUAD picking. Any and all of the above will qualify soldier!

Todd
Hello Todd , i am stil on planet !
After a busy weekend - coffee time in my office and to calm down your Lick 1 Exercise :-)
without the beat you given me but a simular one - hope it works it`s a blues beat with the main Bap hit
Dieter
Soldier, we still have the same issue here. Your playing isn't tied to the beat as far as I can hear and the beat is too complex to serve as a Metronome. What are you using for drums? If you can program it, make a single snare or bass drum beat if you would. Keep it as simple as humanly possible. Just click, click, click, so that your picking can line up with the click, click, click, make sense?
Also, maybe slow down a bit, it sounds like your timing is drifting a bit. It doesn't have to be played fast soldier, just with precision. As in COMBAT, you don't have to shoot 100 rounds to kill 1 guy. One Shot One Kill!!!
Watch this video again, I'm doing ONE PICK STROKE PER NOTE, then TWO PICK STROKES PER NOTE, which would work fine for your MISSION. The tablature for MISSION 1 is just doing FOUR STROKES PER NOTE. Do some of each, but slower, and with a Metronome style beat, and you will get your mission badge!!!!
Todd
OK Todd !
First = 1 2 1 2 Second = 11 22 11 22
Dieter
There ya go!!! Soldier, sometimes the hardest thing is learning to follow orders! You sir have just ......
LEVELED UP!!!!!!
MEDAL OF HONOR
1.)Good hand synch
2.)Playing with the beat
3.)Following Mission Orders!
Good morning General Todd !
Wow now i feel myself as human being again - before hmm Orang Utan ape or so ;-)
Actually i am a General too and sometimes its not easy to listen to others orders - just not used to it - except the orders from my wife
Dieter
I hear ya Soldier!! It's never easy in BOOTCAMP!!! Congrats on taking your first step!!! When you feel like getting your hands dirty, proceed to MISSION II!
Todd
Hello Todd , ALLES KLAR !
I made my lick 2 record and keep it a bit slower hope it is OK for ya ?
Good to see you back in the fight Soldier!!! You have clearly put in some time in the killing fields but I am going to have to send you back out kill again on this one. I notice your hand is shifting a bit in between each note.
Let's Debrief!!!
1.)Try to use proper hand position if possible (thumb can go near the top of the neck, but not to far over, try to keep it closer to the middle)
2.)Your Sitting SIDE SADLE Soldier!!! For bootcamp, try to sit in proper Classical position with your guitar between your legs. THis provides a superior angle of attack on the fret board. You can always go back to side saddle later. Here is a pic of Chris Broderic from Megadeth playing a classical guitar and his position is textbook perfect. The reason to do this is simply that it offers easy access for the hand to the fretboard. It's pure physics.
3.)Try to make pick strikes directly on a given count/beat 1,2,3,4. You can increase the metronome speed to make clicks more frequent to make sure you are striking on a beat/click. This is the key to "timing" and eventually you will play "around" the beat, but first you have to learn to play on the beat.
Keep up the fight Soldier!!!
Sarge
Todd
Also,
Hallo Todd !
a noter go
Here with 140 bpm , Todd !
Much better Soldier!!! Your sitting technique is much better. In the next mission vid, move your left knee a bit to the left so the guitar sits actually in between your legs. This will allow you greater access to the fret board. Also, your thumb is still cheating up a bit above the top of the neck. For the next mission, work on keeping it in the middle and developing an arch in your left hand. Much like our Maestro from Megadeth is doing in that picture But that said,
CONGRATULATIONS SOLDIER!!! YOU JUST LEVELED UP!!!
MEDAL OF HONOR
1.)Vast improvements in technique
2.)Consisten pick strikes
3.)Good hand synch
Thank you Todd , so i go for Lesson part 3
You got it Soldier!! You have ranked up!! Onward!!
Sarge
Todd
Hello Todd here part 3 record
Well fought Soldier!!!! You have got the idea here, but one thing needs a bit more time on the shooting range. There is a little gap in time when you change strings. Try to play all six note in a very even way, then move up one fret. You are almost playing triplet groups here which is cool! But not the mission at hand. Slow down the metronome and strike one note per beat then speed up!
Todd
Good morning !
Soldier I hate to have you keep covering the same ground, but this is very important for your growth as a Soldier, I mean, a PLAYER!! Your playing the lick correctly, it's just not tied to the metronome yet in a close enough way to rank this mission. It may be you are pushing the metronome too fast. These are precision drills so speed isn't as important as precision. Try to slow down the metronome and make one pick strike per click. Match each and every strike to a click, doesn't matter how slow you play it, as long as there is a direct link between each pick strike and the metronome. This is the basis of your ability to play "on rythm"
You are very close Soldier! Don't give up!!!
One tip, add a bit of gain/distortion and it will allow you to pick strike with less force and fret with less force which will make playing evenly far easier. It's the secret sauce
Todd
OK Todd here ;
Well Fought Soldier!!! This is what I'm talking about. You are playing evenly and cleanly, nice! In short, you have ....
MEDAL OF HONOR
1.)Even/Measured Play
2.)Playing with the beat
3.)Good hand synch
Here are your new colors Soldier!!!
Todd
Todd
Hey Todd Lick 4 first go !
Soldier your playing is very even and measured which is very good! Your sitting on the metronome and striking with the beats so your half way home!!! I notice your thumb is riding up over the top of the neck a bit and your playing position looks almost painfully uncomfortable. It's really important to develop good practice habits/posture, etc. especially at the start so that you don't burn in bad habits that can take years to break. It may feel awkward at first, but I"m sure it will help your playing if you sit in classical position for these missions. I found a pic of a guy with a electric jazz guitar sitting in pretty good position. Take a look at this and try do sit sorta like this.
OK i go for it !
Thank you Todd
Hey Todd, here a record with straight Back and i can say i sit comfortable like that !
My thumb hmm, should i shorten and cut it a bit ?
Much better Soldier!
Your playing is nice and even, strikes are clean, posture is better too!! As for your thumb rebellion. Hmm. Well, cutting it off is probably to harsh. Try this.
*Before you start playing, put your thumb in the dead center of the neck. Half way between top string and bottom string. Then let you fingers gently fall towards the string without moving your thumb. You'll have to adjust your fingers for this and won't have the same leverage you are accustomed to. However, getting over this hurdle will open your playing in ways you can't imagine!
But as far as this mission, you officially....
MEDAL OF HONOR
1.)Clean Strikes
2.)Even/Solid Timing
3.)Better Posture/Attack Stance
Your new colors!!!
Hallo Todd !
Here my newest record :-)
Form now on i wanna try 2 strikes per note - ... maybe one day 4 ;-)
Well played Soldier!! And the double picking is a nice touch!!! However, Soldier we have got to work on your hand position!! Maybe I can record a video to go in to more detail on it as I don't seem to be connecting with you using the forums/posts. Of course, you can have any posture/position you like when jamming, but for these workouts/misisons, I really am going to be a stickler for proper technique/position/posture.
Your playing in this vid is good It's your hand position that is preventing a richly deserved combat badge!!! Take a look at your hand position in this video. Then look back over the videos I've posted in your thread so far, and at the pictures I"ve posted. I want you to see if you can isolate what I"m prattling on about
I notice you are not using any gain/distortion, that may be adding to the issue. Without any gain/distortion, you'll have to overcommit to each finger fretting each note and this will result in your hand curling up in to a ball. This has long term problems in that it teaches your hand to stay curled in a ball instead of extended. Each of these missions builds to the next and you will need some serious finger reach very soon, so we have to loosen your hand.
P.S. Back out a bit and let me see how you are sitting. It seems like you are all cramped up and the guitar is sitting on the top of your right knee? Something is in need of a modification so shoot me a wider shot and we will work it out
Todd
Hey Todd here i made a pic for you
[attachment=30938:Foto_am_...um_19.22.jpg]
and here one pic with my thump
[attachment=30939:Foto_am_...um_19.29.jpg]
BINGO!!!! That's some splendid form there Some players are comfy playing all scrunched or side saddle, but I gotta say I think decent posture/position can really help when learning new things. Once I started using more formal posture when I was taking some classical lessons, my playing improved dramatically. I didn't realize i'd been squeezing the neck to much and impeding my ability to reach certain notes. But then again I never tried a huge stretch landing with a pinky til I started playing classical bits.
Todd
Hello Todd here my next record
Lick 5 in 150 and 160 bpm .
I getting used to use my thumb in right position - most the time but will get programmed step by step
YES!!!!! YA!!!!! This is what I'm talking about Your picking is clean, even, steady and solid. Each strike is married to a fretted note and to the metronome. Also, your form is MUCH improved!! A little more Gain/Distortion would probably make your picking hand not have to work quite as hard, but that's a small matter. Well fought Soldier!!
P.S. The addition of DOUBLE PICKING is also a nice touch It's a great way to work your Alternate Picking!
MEDAL OF HONOR
Ok, Todd here Number 6
Soldier this is well played! You have a good grasp of all the bits we have been working on. CONGRATS!!!! The only thing keeping you from your next MISSION BADGE is that while your playing is very good here, it's not connected to the metronome. It's almost like you are playing to a metronome that I can't hear because the playing is VERY GOOD AND EVEN!! But doesn't seem tied to the metronome click.
I see you can play this fast, but fast often isn't the point, slow down and play it closer to the metronome and lock in your speed.
Hello Todd !
Thank you for your Advise !
A big problem i mostly have is that i can not hear my metronome too most of time when i play fast and put my amp with more gain .
One point is my zoom g3 and his metronome - i can not make it ,itself louder then my guitar only when i would use drum machine settings on zoom it will be loud enough to hear it .
I did try to play two strikes per klick so metro was 4/4 8/4 not possible .
Could you give me some metro loop in 8/4 maybe for garageband !?!
or is there any way to make it myself with garageband i did not experiment much with it .
Dieter
EGAD!!!! That is a HUGE problem. You may need to entirely reconfigure your studio setup here as you really do need to hear the metronome. Otherwise, it will be tough to make much progress in bootcamp. Sounds like you are using the one in your pedal and thats not working.hmm.
Your pedal lets you plug in to your computer with USB correct? Maybe skip the amp. I don't use an amp for any of my videos ever. Or my video chat lessons, or Collabs. Use the pedal to record directly in to your computer with REAPER. There will be a learning curve but that's OK
Inside reaper it has it's own metronome and you can control the volume of your guitar track. Also, you can just leave your pedal set on CLEAN TONE and use something like OVERLOUD or AMPLITUDE FREE for your guitar tone. It seems like that little pedal doesn't have very much gain/distortion, and plugins like AMPLITUDE can fix that. Also, most guitar plugins have a Metronome built in. I use OVERLOUD in video chat lessons and use GUITAR RIG on a separate track just for the metronome.
Download REAPER and install it and start messing with it.
UNTIL YOU GET THE HANG OF REAPER!!!
You can always use a FREE ONLINE WEB METRONOME!! That way you have volume control with your computer. Here is one that uses only one click tone, so no problem with bass drum snare drum. This is a LOT more flexible than a couple of strings from garage band.
http://www.metronomeonline.com/
Hello Todd her a record with 120 bpm and 2 strikes per note .
I did download amplitude and it work`s but what made me mad about it ..
that i had to give with every new start of the program again my serial number in and again registration and the same procedure ........
so i deinstalled it !
I did found some amp simulation settings with my zoom g3 - direct input to iMac - where i myself can here the metronome
now better !
Its not my favorite sound settings but for me it would work to use it on the Bootcamp Lessons , right now .
I hope it is fine with you, Todd too !?
By the way i am looking forward to get myself completely new equipment around end of next year and i will start before that
selling my actually hardware , amp and stuff on e-bay without a hurry .
For the new Equipment i would be glad to get some input from you, maybe ?
iMac or MacPro - Apogee - Pro Logic - Quicktime ect. - Headphone - Speakers ..... in this direction maybe !?
Dieter
AMPLITUDE should only need the serial once but it sounds like it may not be keeping it for some reason? Thats odd and would make me very frustrated very quickly. I can't blame you for uninstalling it
Glad to hear you found some presets and can hear your metronome!!
Buying a Mac and Logic ( or even using REAPER) is a very good way to go. Also, GARAGE BAND comes free with every Mac and it's a good place to start since it's very simple and quick and I use it myself often to start a song then finish in LOGIC since you can import Garage Band projects to Logic
Apogee is a fine choice. They make really good interfaces. Add a pair of nice headphones and you are good to go You can start with a Mac Mini and use your existing computer monitor/screen and mouse/keyboard etc. Or maybe get an iMac but they are a bit more.
Also, consider getting a Macbook. That way it's easy to be portable to record anywhere at any time without moving heavy gear and the monitor/screen is built in
ON TO THE MISSION!!!
Soldier this one is much better. But take a moment and watch the vid. Listen to the CLICK of the metronome and then listen for your pick strike. At some points, you are playing tight, on the beat, then it drifts. You may be trying to play too fast? Try this.
1.)Slow Down, way down. Focus on the Beat Count.
2.)Focus on the metronome click. You need to synchronise your pick strikes to the metronome so that even with the metronome turned off, your playing sounds like a machine. Precise, controlled, even. This is something that is important to grasp before moving on to playing "around" the beat. Before that, one must play "on" the beat.
I"ll make a vid that may help?
Hellole Todd !
Dieter
Well done!!! Now you are putting it all together Good form! Good Technique! Good Speed! Soldier you are ready to take this to the next level. You have made BIG strides here. I want you to push it a little farther. Here are your MISSION PARAMETERS!!!
1.)See if you can MAINTAIN GOOD HAND SYNCH, and EVEN, STEADY PICKING, and push the speed up just a bit more.
2.)Slow back down and do a DOUBLE PICKING version. Double picking is HARD!!!! Which is why it's worth doing!!!
You are ready to fight a little harder Soldier!! Fight on!!
Todd
Hello Todd here my next go !
Dieter
The double picking is good!! But you may be pushing it a bit fast. For DOUBLE PICKING, always SLOW DOWN a bit. You've got plenty of speed on the single picking version. It looks like you are losing synch with the beat a bit at this speed. I APPLAUD and APPRECIATE your aggressive approach!!! Try to back off the speed a bit to the point where you stay locked on to the beat. You are very close soldier, more practice and keep fighting!!
Todd
Ok Todd i did my first record with headphone
so give it a ear
Soldier I am impressed with your AGRESSION, but listen closely to the Marching Orders!!!
1.)CUT THE SPEED IN HALF
Playing each Mission with Precision is 10 TIMES more important than playing it fast. Speed is a byproduct of precision so focus on that first. Here are some tips.
1.)Synch each pick strike to a click on the metronome.
2.)Dont worry about speed.
3.)Play "mechanically" like a Swiss Watch, Tick, Tock, Tick Tock. You have to play like a robot before you can learn to Shred like a God!!!
I hate to have you keep fighting the same Battle Soldier!!! But it's CRUCIAL!!!! that you slow down enough to get a bit more precision. Keep fighting Soldier!!!!!!!
Todd
Ok Todd ,
here first vid with one strike per click 180 200 220 bpm
two strikes per click follows in a second vid soon !
Dieter
Ok here 2 Strikes
BINGO!!!!! This is exactly what I"m talking about Soldier!!! Well done
OK Todd so the next days i go for double strike and record end of the week.
When i do not heare it myself i let my daughter make the record
Thank you Todd !
Dieter
noter ONE !
It looks like the same issue is still waging war against us Soldier. Your playing is not matching up with the metronome so I"ve made a video just for you. This is EXACTLY what I'd like you to play One pick strike, per click, just like in this video. That way you can be sure you are playing on the beat.
This is something you have to conquer in order to be able to play properly. It seems odd at first. But you'll get it. Stay at it!!
It almost sounds like you are playing but not listening to the metronome. As if the metronome is not guiding you. Almost like the metronome was added later, as if your ignoring it. This is what we have to work on first. Nothing else matters at all until this get fixed Soldier. Timing is the very foundation of playing music. So we are going to work on playin "In Time" until we get it right:)
Here is the video. Let me know if this helps?
OK , Todd a record to check
Thank you for your patience !
Well Played Soldier!!!!! Now this is what I'm talking about!!!!!!!!
Let's Debrief!!
MEDAL OF HONOR
1.)Clean Strikes
2.)Solid right hand planted on Bridge
3.)Good hand synch
In short Soldier, you just
!!!!!!!!LEVELED UP!!!!!!!!
Hello Todd i hope you are fine !
I just wanna say Hello and i am alive
The last nearly 3 weeks i got a fight with the flu but i think i got it now so soon the next record for ya

hard times are coming for my neighbors the garden season is opening too i will exercise in garden
Dieter
Hello Todd here now my next Record Lick 7 !
WELL FOUGHT!!!! You have come a long way Soldier!!! This is quite good. You have very clean picking here and clean playing. The timing is good also!!!!
I think you are ready to turn up the VIOLENCE a bit Soldier!! To prove your worth on the FIELD OF BATTLE do this same MISSION as a DOUBLE PICKED MISSION. Just Pick each note twice. It doesn't have to be fast, just precise!!!
I smell VICTORY Soldier!!
Todd
Lick 7 two picks
welcome back to the fight Soldier!!!! It seems like our old enemy, "The Metronome" is still fighting dirty. Perhaps try using the trick where you use a single type of click, instead of snare and bass drum, just bass drum. And make sure each pick strike lines up with a click on the metronome.
You are playing the bit just fine Which is great. Congrats on getting it down!! We just need to connect your playing directly to the metronome. So that it sounds like you are being driven by the clicks instead of it sounding sort of like the clicks are happening but not connected to the playing. Make sense?
You may need to speed up the metronome, but slow down, way down, on the speed of your playing. That way each pick strike, each note, can sync with a metronome hit/click. Ok?
Onward!!!
Todd
Good Evening , Todd !
Well Fought Soldier!!! Much better work here. I can see you have put some time in on the shooting range!!
In short you just.....
MEDAL OF HONOR
1.)Clean Strikes
2.)Even/Solid Timing
3.)Aggressive Style
Hello Todd here my Lick 8 with two strikes !
I had to use the drum hits because i hear it better than the metronome so dup dup ( dam dam )
Well Fought Soldier!!! Don't forget to PM me if you can when you complete a mission. I'd hate to miss the post!! On to the Mission!
Let's Debrief....

So HELLO Todd !
I did not forget about GMC and YOU of course -- just took some time out of everything !
OK, today i start exercising for the Big Run on Lesson 9 .
I hope you are WELL and how are things going with Alexa !?
Dieter
NO worries soldier!! Sometimes you have to take a break from the killing fields to reload your gun!!!
Todd
Alright Todd here i start my New Run hope you don`t mind !
I did 3 Parts in one Video , so 1 Beat - 2 Beats and 4 Beats .
For 4 Beats i could not use the metronome , because i did not hear it right but instead i used some drum -- Dub Dub and i
hope it is OK for ya !?
Well played Soldier!!! You nailed it all but for the very last one. On the last version, your playing doesn't sound connected to the drum part. Your playing is still pretty good there as is your picking!! But I need to hear it locked in to the beat/drums. I think you may be pushing the last one a bit too far and playing a bit fast. The others are great!
Take one more try at the last version (4 beats/Quad Picking) and try it Slower. You are very close Soldier!!! Once more in to the breach!!!
Todd
Ok Todd, here a slower One with 4 beats
Sorry for the lag Soldier! I wanted to say WELL FREAKING DONE!!!!! This is very well played and your are doing a great job of keepin the notes/strikes on the beat. This is what I like to see Soldier!! Your playing is really coming along!!!
Well Fought Soldier!!! Don't forget to PM me if you can when you complete a mission. I'd hate to miss the post!! On to the Mission!
Let's Debrief....
MEDAL OF HONOR
1.)Precision Strikes
2.)One Shot (Strike) One Kill
3.)Good Speed and Consistency
Some great improvements in your playing Soldier!!!
In short Soldier, you just......

Ok Todd ,
here Lesson 10 1Beat and 2 Beats per click
Well fought Soldier!!! Your practice is paying off!!!!!
Let's Debrief....
MEDAL OF HONOR
1.)Good Alternate PIcking
2.)Assasin level precision
3.)Single and Double Picked!!!

Welcome to LEVEL 10!!!! Few Soldiers make it this far. You are one of the Few, the Proud, The BOOTCAMP SHREDDERS!!!
Hello Todd , here Lick 11 !
My english is sometimes a bit in trouble but i hope i understood the lesson right
So Lesson 11 posted Tab is like 7 - 5 - 3 and then on video the Tab is 7 - 5 - 4 thats why i thought to play it
first 7-5-4 ........ following with 7-5-3 ......... and so all the way down the neck hopefully it`s the right mission job !
Anyway a great exercise for my left hand JOGA
Well Fought Soldier!! Your precision is picking up nicely. Your playing is very even and tied to the metronome. Nice! You are ready to start the next mission. You've got this one down
MEDAL OF HONOR
1.)Clean Strikes
2.)Even Pacing and Progression
3.)Good speed.
In short Soldier, you just......
!!!!!!!LEVELED UP!!!!!!!!!!!
Hello Todd !
My record from Lesson Lick 12
Your coming along Soldier!!!! You've got all the notes and finger positions down. Try to slow down the pace a bit and play more evenly if possible. There is a pause at the end of each four note group that is a bit long. Try to play each note for the same length of time as if you were playing a scale over several strings.
You are making great progress!!! And nice axe!!!
Give this Mission one more go!!!
Todd
Soldier!! I want you to dig deep and try a few death defying missions!
1.)Pick your favorite 10 Guitar Songs. List them 1-10. Get an Mp3 version of song 1. Learn the song ENTIRELY BY EAR.
2.)Share your results in a video in this thread.
This will help you work on your ear training and allow you to dig in to music you love. Go for it soldier!!
Todd
Hello Todd !
There are many songs i do like but i started to list 10 of course , even there are so many songs i might just not remember right
now .
1. is Jimi Hendrix Angel
it will take some time until record
Thank you !
DIETER
Lick 12 a bit slower
No worries you can play along with the track and even use your web cam if that works. If you have a small guitar amp, you can use that and play the song over any playback system. Then just record via web cam. You don't have to do it all at once. If you figure out a piece of the song, record just that piece
This is MUCH MUCH Better Soldier!!!! I want to push your ability a bit farther here. Try the same thing, slower if needed, with DOUBLE PICKING. So pick every note twice and you will nail your next MISSION BADGE!!!!! Great progress on this one!!
Todd
Hello Todd , her Lick 12 Twice !
Nice Mission Soldier!!! Your fighting skills are improving at each turn. I have noticed your hand position might be getting in your way a bit. Your thumb is coming over the top of the guitar which reduces the amount of reach/stretch your fingers are able to do. When playing below the 12th fret, try to keep your thumb planted dead center on the guitar neck. It will give your fingers better reach!
Let's Debrief!
MEDAL OF HONOR
1.)GoodClean Strikes
2.)Double Pick
3.)Tightened up timing
In short you just.....
Keep it up Soldier you are on a roll!!
Lick 13
Soldier your really gaining ground!! I have to put the brakes on this mission to focus a bit on your left hand. Your speed here is good!! But you may need to slow down just a bit. Let's focus on your right hand.
1.)Try to put your left thumb in the middle of the neck and keep it there and reach with your PINKY to hit the far notes.
2.)Try to keep your hand centered and not let it move to hit the note but instead make the fingers do the work. I"ll record a short vid to demonstrate
Here is a video demo. Watch my left hand. See now I keep it in one position and let the fingers do the work? See if you can try it similar to this Also, is your guitar difficult to press the strings? Some guitars are tough to play this type of thing on.
SOME TIPS!
1.)Make sure to sit in proper "Classical Position" with your guitar in between your legs.
2.)Put your left foot up on something like a stack of books.
3.)Increase the angle of the guitar neck, bring the head stock towards the ceiling a bit.
4.)Don't let your thumb creep over the top of the neck. Keep it in the middle of the neck.
Thank YOU, TODD !
Hello Todd!
Here a record 160 bpm twice pick and concentrating more on left hand
Sorry i delete the movie vid in a mistake !!!
Have to do a new record later
So here, Todd the right video on Facebook !

Soldier, I don't this this method will work for us You can post to youtube and simply select UNLISTED and this will make the video not show up for people unless they have the link. So only folks you share the link with will have it. Make sense?
Todd
Hello Todd !
Here a youtube vid ( unlisted ) hope it works well .
Dieter
You are getting closer!! Remember in our SATURDAY VID chat, we gave some examples about using your fingers instead of moving your hand back and forth to reach notes? And about putting your thumb in the middle of the neck? Slow the speed down as much as you need to and try to use your fingers to reach the notes. Your making progress!! Keep at it!!
Todd
Hello Todd !
Yes i recognized the different when leaving thumb in middle of the neck and using more my fingers !
I do exercise more slow but getting daily more used to it and it is as you said ,, ZEN " too , real relaxing
Too i try to work with less hand and finger pressure and getting more into feeling !
The next days i only exercise this new technic with lick 13 and some pentatonic exercise 3-to 4 times a day half an hour
and than relaxing my hand because i feel the load in my hand and arm , so have to be a bit careful.
Too i stopped every exercising with other stuff because i will get my hand and fingers under control / compared with my
breathing before i go on with exercising, lessons or collaboration , own stuff and so on ........
Actually, just right now , i am starting as a BEGINNER guitarist from the ground
Thank you for INSPIRATION and ALL THE BEST !
Dieter
Hello Todd !
Her a new record of Lick 13 it feels more comfortable now for me but still have some fight with the big stretching part up to
thick E A D string but will getting better soon 1
Dieter

MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH BETTER!!!!!!
I have a suggestion to make this lick a bit easier.
1.)Move the entire drill up two frets.
This will make the stretch easier to reach without moving your hand.
2.)Practice the drill using only your right hand. Forget picking for a few times.
Just place your fingers one at a time.
You are making GREAT progress!!
Todd
Ok , Todd ,here it is !
Now i can play it more comfortable ( from my view/ feel ) and without any pain .
I do exercise in higher speed too but this will take much more time until i reach one day 200 bpm and it feels comfortable
with it

Well fought Soldier!!! This is MUCH better! You are getting a good handle on the hand movements and position!!!!
Let's Debrief!
MEDAL OF HONOR
1.)Good righ hand, left hand synchronization
2.)Much Improved left hand placement and position
3.)Tightened up timing
In short you just.....
Keep up this momentum Soldier!!!

Well Fought Soldier!!! You have a great take of DOUBLE PICKING here!!!!
I would like to see also
1.)Single Picking Version (Pick each note once)
2.)Quad Picking Version (Pick each note including open string FOUR TIMES!)
I know this is going to be tough but you have been gaining momentum and I think you are ready for it!!!!
Once More Into The Breach!!!!!
Sarge
Hello Todd here a single picking version !
Quad follows next days !
Soldier this is very well played! But I am hearing DOUBLE PICKING? I hear two of each note, including the open string? SINGLE PICKING is one pick strike, one note, then on to the next note. Maybe this is just the wrong vid? Either way, well played!!!
Sarge
Haha Todd and Sorry !
I thought i did one beat per click but yes i did play with the open string .
Ok next vid i do without open string - i understood something wrong !
My Swabian English is sometimes a bit confused
Dieter
